We recently did a staff retreat in the area and chose this spot as one of our eatout meals for breakfast one more. Wow! If I’m ever in the area again I’m 100% going again and we seriously thought about trying to extend our stay so we could come back to try the lunch menu on a different day. Our group of 12 were so well taken care of by our servers Belle and Katlyn. They were so nice, friendly, attentive, and helpful in their service throughout. I always think it’s unique when a place can make out of town guests feel like their locals and that was exactly the level of care and treatment we received. A+! Beyond the great service, the food was incredible! We received great recommendations on our orders from the servers and EVERYONE LOVED literally everything they ordered. I had the pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and a biscuit and it was fantastic and so filling and I couldn’t believe how great the prices were, especially given the portion sizes and food quality were so great. Other members of our party got omelets, French toast, grits, breakfast burritos, etc and everyone went on and on about how great everything was. We seriously did not want to leave. Thank you Smoots! If you’re ever anywhere nearby you absolutely MUST try out this hidden gem. Seriously how is this not getting 5 stars from...
Read moreThis review is for the old Smoots Restaurant located in the building where Zebulon Whistle Stop is now. I don't know anything about the new place, but not surprised Smoots is gone - Good Potential - but no. This is a little local place with a nice vibe. However they certainly miss the mark in most other categories. Menu is good, portions are generous and prices aren't unreasonable (though they've lately increased by about 6%). Food quality is generally mediocre - everything is greasier than it should be, generally lacks seasoning and nothing is ever really very hot; especially the biscuits. They're of good size and have a real buttermilk flavor, but in numerous visits I've never received one that was more than merely warm at best. They've also gotten chintzy with napkins, sugar, hot sauce and jelly, not to mention coffee, water and service. A cup of coffee is apparently that - A cup of coffee. So if your expectations aren't too high and you've got the time, stop on in at Smoots for a breakfast that, at least, is better...
Read moreNew to the area and read the rating; therefore it was a must go to check this place out. My husband and I went crowd was moderate; sat and waited to get serve. After about 30 minutes the young lady at the cashier noticed we still had not been served came to our table and apologized. A waitress later came took our order and left. Other customers began to walk in and one thing we did noticed three couples that came in AFTER us were served and waited on but the mind bottling was they got their orders first before us!!! Again the the cashier came to our table and asked if we had placed our order and we confirmed we did. Even she seem upset; she apologized again. It was shortly after that our order came out. I wish to believe its their lack of customer service and not due to discrimination. Oh did I mentioned my husband is Mexican. Lesson learn not returning and may God have mercy on their lack...
