Grove Street Cafe — Restaurant in Barry Township

Came here tonight with my boyfriend after we both just got off work, was looking for some comfort food close to home. We’ve eaten here many of times and didn’t ever have as bad of an issue as we did tonight. When we arrived, it wasn’t that busy. Maybe 3 tables. Sat down, and one of the waitresses came by to take our order. We did the pick 4 for the breakfast, I asked for scrambled eggs, hash browns, and just two orders of the 2 piece bacon and as soon as I asked for my bacon and hash browns to be cooked just slightly longer the waitress immediately looked annoyed. She looked even more annoyed when I asked for a side of a bagel with cream cheese. Didn’t pay too much mine to it, since I figured they had a long busy day so I was being understanding and let it go. When our food came out she put our food down and my eggs had cheese on it (I never asked for cheese on my eggs) and gave an attitude with our food asking if we want anything else and I didn’t feel comfortable correcting her on the mistake. I asked her about my bagel and cream cheese that I ordered and never received. She didn’t say anything, just walked away. 15 minutes later she came back with my bagel and cream cheese and we noticed she never brought syrup or hot sauce for my boyfriends food. She left and came back and had another attitude and said “anything else?” We told her no, and she walked away. We finished our meal and at that time they maybe had 4 tables in the whole restaurant filled with just 2 people at each table. She was super sweet and friendly with everyone else except us. Her daughters came in after they got off school and she had them start cleaning her tables that she didn’t pick up. They walked past us multiple times, never asked if we wanted the check seeing we were finished and had to wait for another waitress to come take our card. She left with our card and our waitress decided to loudly complain that we were asking for too many things. Over all a really uncomfortable and not so great experience. I support small/local businesses, especially after everything we’re dealing with, with covid. But after tonight we will not be coming back, and I honestly hope that they don’t treat anyone...

Nice little mom & pop shop. Nice looking, and pretty good atmosphere for a small town place. Everybody seemed to know everybody, so the locals must be regulars. I ordered take out, so I can't say much about the service, though the service I did have for ordering and pick up was very friendly and thoughtful. The prices were on par for a place like this. My meal was a 1/3 pound bacon cheeseburger with fries, cottage cheese, and a mixed soft drink for about $12. The burger was cooked to order, and it was spot on. It was big, tender, juicy, and looked great. While I did enjoy eating it, I was disappointed in the lack of flavor. What flavor was there was good, but there just wasn't enough to make it really good; not sure why, because it really looked perfect. The fries were good, but nothing special, and cottage cheese is cottage cheese (it did at least taste fresh and good). The mixed soda (Coke with Grenadine) was good. Overall: I would eat there again, but I'd probably try something else just hoping there'd be more flavor to enjoy. The taste of the food was 3-star, but the overall experience was...

The food was delicious, service not so much. Opinion question. When we got there there was one table that had been served, one had its order taken, one is leaving, waitress takes our order, we wait and wait (she is not visible neither is anyone else) another table comes in, different waitress takes that order, we are still waiting (no one checks our drinks or anything), waitress finally comes out said she realize our order was taking a long time and checked on it and it wasn't put in, it will be about another 10 minutes she hopes that ok its her bad, other tables food comes out, their waitress finally ask us if we have been helped, I tell her yes but apparently our order wasn't put in and it will be ready in about 10 minutes, she then said well she's new. We finally get our food. Everyone makes mistakes, however after that you would have thought she would have been or attentive, she didn't even check on or offer to full our drinks. One would think some sort of discount or even a piece of pie for the error and inconvenience would have been offered. ...
