We drove 13 hours, passing the Rangers up the street, before finding our neon oasis. I don’t have a family, just kids. When we walked into County Club and heard the good old country music, my boys really went for it. The first time I’ve been there, but it won’t be the last, because the drinks are cheap, the men are generous, and they dance with cordiality, unlike most urban settings. The light show is phenomenal—UV fluorescent nail polish, infrared light, and a little smattering of glow-in-the-dark goodness. The service was great, the burger was rare (just how I asked for it), and the meat didn’t taste freezer-burned or frozen. It was fresh, I think—Angus. Which is interesting, because my son Angus had recently changed his name, but by the time we got to County Line Club, he was still going by Angus. When they asked for his order, he spit up his Mountain Dew, laughing at the jokes our server told. It’s a real laugh riot at County Line Club. The floors are slippery, but that’s not a deal breaker. The walls are wet—maybe from humidity, because after all, it’s Florida. All I know is every person there had a different cologne on, very strong, and all the ladies wore their own unique, personalized perfumes.
