Bass Lake Pub & Ristorante — Restaurant in Bass Lake

I was worried at first glance, It looks horrible, total truck stop type of thing. Lame cafe' type seating.. old tables and metal old chairs.. It was mostly clean but the lack of appeal and lack of decor made me 'feel' like it wasn't. The waitresses were what you would find at a bar that serves food, really nice and attentive but not noticeably professionals with slang talk and "I got you, hun" type personalities. The food took FOREVER, like 40 min or so. Which is despicable because they were not even notably busy other than a full bar in the other room. Despite the horrid decor of a truck stop the food was surprisingly nice. They had a respectable selection. I ordered the smaller steak and shrimp (ribeye it think) but it was thin.. less than 1/2 inch thick, cooked to perfect medium rare (hard to do with such a thin steak) and seasoned well. It was nearly 1/3 fat. which was disappointing but the shrimp were perfect, large, crispy home style battered obviously not ordered from a random store, the shrimp almost reminded me of lobster and I wondered if I made a mistake by ordering the fried when they would of even been better saute' with some butter. Still amazed by the shrimp, maybe the best I've ever had. The person I was with ordered the larger steak and it was of reasonable thickness.. just shy of an inch thick also seasoned and cooked perfectly. The artichoke and spinach dip was served with garlic bread as opposed to the usual pita's and was actually good, though down home and not fancy it reviled high priced restaurants in quality and flavor. I'd recommend this place if you can get past ugly for the quality of food. Or as a trial if you're in town for a week. But less than a 1/4 mile north is another place with better decor, comparable food and selection and notably faster service. I actually, after several visits, don't even understand how this place is still open with the other option available. But give it a try and see...

This has to be the worst place on Bass Lake, the owners help is costing him money! I walked in the door Sunday, 8/8 and ask the waitress if she could accommodate 14 of us (plus a baby). She said no (the older blond waitress). I looked in the pub area and told her those tables can be put together to accommodate us ( there were only 4 tables people were sitting at in the eating area, 2 at each table). The older blonde waitress reluctantly went to the pub area with my son who helped her put the tables together. We all sat down and waited 20 min. For her to come get our drink order, another 15 min to get our drinks from a different waitress. Then when we told her we’re ready to order she stated “it will take over an hour to get your food. I only have 2 cooks and the other one called in sick” . We responded that’s Ok “ she stated don’t order pizza because we have a pizza special and that would take 2 hours to get”. We still said ok, she said she had to get her check book and come back. She sent the other red head waitress with our waters and drinks. She was shaking so much I thought she was going to drop the trays. Well to our surprise neither waitress came to get our order. We watched 4 young kids walk in and the crusty old blonde took their order. We have been waiting their over an hour by this time, so we asked the bartender if he could get our waitress (they both were hiding). They never came, bartender asked them again, still no waitress ( he didn’t seem to care neither). My husband had to literally walk to the bar and demand our check. Which he paid and we left. Definitely WOULD NOT recommend this place! We were a group of four In town for the festival and out of all the restaurants we had to choose from we decided to go there. We got there before the crowd. We had a young waitress who approached us right away and took our drink and appetizer order. . We waited a while for our drinks and then shortly after our appetizers came. She did not tell us the specials were we had to ask and then she did not give us the price with the specials, we overheard the waitress at the other table, talking about them. That is the only way that we knew. So she took our order which two of us ordered the Specials one ordered a personalized pizza and the other ordered baked chicken. We waited for an hour and a half. We watched the people at two different tables beside us come in after us get their drinks, appetizers, and food and leave before us. We finally had to reach out to another waiter that was serving the table beside us to check on our food. He went back and talked to the manager, which the manager never came to speak to us, and proceeded to tell us it was going to be another 10 minute wait for our food After we’d already been there an hour and a half. Somebody dropped the ball for sure and nobody came out to talk to us about it or anything. We paid for our drinks and our appetizers and left. They didn’t even try to compensate us for anything.
