Stopped here after a 22 mile hike on the cowboy trail in 95 degree heat. Several friendly locals gawked at our appearance and stature (and maybe smell?) as they left the bar and made sure to give us props and encouragement for the remainder of our trip. We looked a bit rough having just fought our way through swarms of mosquitos, narrowly escaping a most likely imaginary mountain lion (or black lab) we thought was stalking us the last leg.
Maybe it was the exhaustion, or our aching legs and feet but my double cheeseburger tasted as if seasoned, pressed and fried by the hand of God. Dripping in melty American cheese and grease, my mind told me no, but my stomach screamed yes, Yes, YES! 1200 calories was nothing on the 5000 I burned to hold her in my hand.
I also had the cheese curds (delicious as all cheese curds are, but nothing special), Buddies had the potato wedges and onion rings/strings both were fantastic.
Friendly and fiesty bartender/cook made us our food at 10pm and shared some local stories and mused at the adventures from our day on the trail. Cant remember her name but she was awesome. Friendly local named Clifford (Who runs the lodge in town) offered (after we asked) to take us and our packs to our campsite across the town and shared some local knowledge about the lakes and trail. Way to REPRESENT small...
Read moreThe Corral Bar in Bassett ain’t just a bar—it’s the kind of place where the grill smoke hangs in the air like a Nebraska sunset, and the burgers ride out of the kitchen like prize bulls at the county fair. Big, bold, and damn near too hefty for one hand, these burgers aren’t meals—they’re commitments. Bite into one and you’ll swear you hear a fiddle tune playing in the background.
The place itself is pure heartland charm: wood, laughter, and locals swapping stories like poker chips. Service? Let’s just say the folks here treat you less like a stranger and more like a cousin who finally came home.
You won’t find truffle fries or fancy cocktails with umbrellas here, thank God. What you will find are burgers so juicy they should come with a rain poncho, ribs that fall apart like a pickup with too many miles, and beer colder than a January morning on the prairie.
Bottom line—if you’re anywhere near Bassett, saddle up and head to The Corral. Around here, the burgers don’t just hit the spot—they...
Read moreThe bar was nice and drinks were reasonable, but the service was terrible. I was one of two people in the bar at the time and could not cash put. The waitress was busy talking to the one other person in the bar and eating dinner. It's sad that this was the only place open in Bassett. My group of 11 was looking for a place to eat dinner and I advised we go to a town 20 minutes away as we would be unable to...
