Mariscos Lozanos Café — Restaurant in Bastrop

This little place moved from across the highway - to a much better building. Didn't have a good experience at the old place, but this is totally different! Breakfast is solid. I've had the corned beef hash and eggs, and the Tejano omelet. The hash ain't for everyone but I liked it. The omelet was perfect - I don't know how they get the eggs so fluffy. Hash browns are perfect, the biscuits are split, buttered and lightly grilled - so good! Had the catfish plate awhile back, really amazing. I like the big slabs o' catfish versus the 'strips' lots of places do. Perfectly fried, crispy and tender. Portions are big, basically two meals in one - we always get to-go boxes. Obviously family owned and operated - you feel like family when you walk in. It's a little funky, the building was a computer-repair shop, but it's clean and neat. Protocols followed. Parking is a bit haphazard but not a big issue. Definitely...

Thanksgiving of 2023 my husband and I were traveling on bicycles with our dog looking for work and a place to live and it was really cold it was getting dark and we had traveled a long ways already we made it from La Porte Texas with bicycles trailers and our dog and my husband went in and asked if he could do some dishes for some food that night and the lady seen me and the dog out there and allowed us to eat she gave us a meal that was wonderful her heart is amazing of my life and truly one of the best meals of our life! Highly recommend the pork steak! ♥️ We have now found our place in life have jobs and are doing well and we were hungry it could be that night and she gave us a very Happy Thanksgiving! Been meaning to stop in for a few years now and tonight was the night. Happy that I did.

The cafe has a quaint friendly, small town, vibe with regulars as everyone seemed to know staff and vice-versa.

Breakfast is served all day so that was a huge plus at 6:30pm. So I ordered a little bit of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Chips & salsa (good, could be more spicy)

Breakfast taco: egg, sausage, beans, cheese (solid especially with the green hot sauce)

2 eggs over Med, chicken fried chicken with white gravy, crispy hash browns, and toast (very happy, good size portion)

1 fried catfish fillet and 4 fried shrimp (solid)

slice of coconut cream pie (ok, had better)

$32.99 before tip

Overall it was a great experience and worth checking out. Will definitely be back to try...
