Slaydens is a Classic. I wish they offered more than 1 kind of BBQ sauce. The vinegar is too strong for me, personally. However, theirs is SIGNATURE sauce for their place. Always has been. Their meats, pies, setting. It's all there. Did I say Pies ? Our family has Slaydens do our Holiday pies often. Those are classics as well. It's all top of the line . A small face lift would not hurt. Bringing in some new tables, seating..a coat of paint. Everything OLD needs to be brushed up from time to time. Make it look cleaner and on point. POP IT BACK into the freshness and bring it back a little. The place is deserving. Just makes it look a little cleaner and nice. KEEP THE BAR AND SEATS THERE !! That keeps the old-fashioned soda counter look and is such a great part. Their FOOD is ALL Sooo good. We will always go there and hope our children and their children continue to go. There are some things that will never be able to be copied or replaced. Slaydens is one of those. Their potato salad has always been the same. We eat dill/ mayo potato salad at home, but Slaydens is signature. I get Slaydens when I am there, and that's the ONLY place I eat, sweet potato salad .. I'm just saying. If you don't like it, get one of many other things they have that are exceptionally well done. I am so glad Slayden is still there. Sadly, you can not count in many older classics to last the test of time. I hope people are being trained to do as they do in order...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOlder, cool lookin place. Food was decent. I had ribs and brisket. Two BIG spare ribs (too big, should have baby backs) brisket was chopped- expected sliced. No bark- tasted like roast beef. No smoke. Ribs were better. Cole slaw was not homemade- disappointed. Potato salad was almost runny. Thin. No texture. Decent flavor.
Worker cut lemons directly on an eating table. I could care less but should have cutting board and done in the back.
I sat at counter. Had to get my own napkins, salt/pepper from a table.
Seemed anxious to close. Worker answered phone. Said āno to go orders. We close at 7. Itās 640. We quit at 640. Horrible look.
Could be a cool old place. Theyāre obviously tired. Donāt wanna be there.
I was looking for a 50 plus year old restaurant that showed why they were still there. Iām disappointed to see that they would rather be somewhere else. Especially close to closing time. Kind of a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered a fish plate and received two pieces of fish and tartar sauce, no sides ($10). Also ordered a po-boy plate, received only the sandwich no side - total cost $20.60. If the new policy is no longer including fries with sandwich and two sides with the fish then this is the most overpriced restaurant in the parish. When I got home and realized what I received I called; it was 6:52 p.m. and they close at 7:00 so they put me on hold until after 7:00 and now the line has been busy for 10 additional minutes. I'm not calling back and not going back, would advise anyone who goes to this restaurant to check everything before you leave. On top of everything else the roast beef was about as dry as you can get meat without turning it to jerky. I have no idea who owns the restaurant now but it was not this way years ago regardless of price at least you knew you were going to get good...
