The best thing about the Notch is perhaps the view of Mount Washington, and the drinks. They've a small beer and cocktail selection, but what we had was delicious. I had some sort of mule that had maple syrup and jalapeño bitters. My fiance had a local IPA. Couldn't tell you which one, they were out of several of their beers.
The food was mediocre and the service was disappointing. The server did take time answering my questions, but I wouldn't call her warm or friendly, and I would say she was rather slow, especially given that the restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, we were just there before noon. She didn't come to check on us after bringing our meals, and we were waiting for her to return for some time so we could ask for a check. I could see her through the windows talking with her coworkers. She was also unsure if I could have a cocktail when I initially ordered because she didn't know if the bartender was in yet...what? The beef and noodle soup tasted like a can of Progresso. The hummus and chips were SO bland. The pita chips appear to be housemade and were fine. But the roasted red pepper hummus with kalamata olives was literally hummus with some olives and diced roasted red peppers on top. There was nothing mixed in. It was the densest blandest hummus I've ever had. I'm not convinced it wasn't just mashed chickpeas. My chips kept breaking trying to dip into it. My fiance had a grilled cheese with tomato and bacon and a side of fries. The fries were good! The bacon was undercooked.
If you're going for a cocktail and a nice view, I'd say it's worth a shot. Or if you're staying at the hotel looking for a convenient bite, it's fine. But if you're looking for a great meal and good service, I wouldn't...
Read moreGood and bad. No views from most of the tables, and the view is part of why we chose the establishment. Staff is very cool. No friendly greeting. Acted very awkwardly and they did not give clear feedback or instruction when I asked for a table for 8. Someone mumbled they would need to put tables together. I looked around and saw nothing but empty tables save for a table or two. We went outside the hotel lobby quite a while to enjoy the view while we waited and waited until I returned to inquire if our table was ready. I was told it was ready, though it seemed no one was going to bother to come and tell us, and it was not even large enough to seat us all— no tables were put together at all. That would not have taken much effort. Complimentary blueberry muffins were a nice touch, though they lacked any salt and we were only given 7 for our party of 8 and not asked if we wanted more. We waited an exceptionally long time to order (after waiting so long for a table that had been clear and ready from the moment we arrived), and then we waited an even longer time for food, despite there being only a few patrons present. The children were starving by then… another basket of muffins would have been really nice. We overhead our waitress go over to the couple seated after us who had gotten to just walk in and sit right down, and tell them she was going to get their order in ahead of ours!!!! The children's pancakes had an odd crispiness and flavor of having been fried in butter. They are not ever picky about pancakes, but did not care for these. My bacon was superb. I wouldn’t return based on the coldness of the staff and it being very...
Read moreWe live locally and decided to try the restaurant for our first anniversary. We recently also just had our first baby so this was our first date night. We are very easy going but this whole experience was very disappointing. We were sat at 6:30 only to be told close to 7:30 there was an issue with the fish app we ordered so it would be a bit longer. We never did receive that app and our meals did not arrive until 8pm. They were ok but in a valley where there are many good locally owned restaurants I know of places where we could have had a better meal at the same or lesser price point. Our salad (the app we did receive) was comped it isn’t about the money to me but it seemed like given the experience a very menial offering. We did not mention to the server as she already seemed overwhelmed with the circumstances of the kitchen, but some of the precut veggies on the salad had begun to compost. Having grown up in the valley and worked in hospitality I am familiar with the stressors of the busy summer season and lack of help in the area. I hope this is just a fluke for them but it was an all around disappointing experience on what should have been a...
