Hello reader, I do not know anyone here, we were on the road and I wanted to try and Indiana pork loin sandwich.
The restaurant is in the little town of battleground IN. along the railroad track. The place is a few minutes from interstate 65. Easy on, easy off. Definitely take the time to grab a bit here.
The bar is on one side of the building, the restaurant is on the other side. It is an old school joint. The waitresses are very cool locals.
The pork loin sandwich is lightly battered fried meat on a white bread bun, I was told the way most people order it dressed with pickles and cheese. Which was pretty good, I would have added raw sweet onion and yellow mustard. But you can get it dressed anyway you want of course. It is like a really good german wienerschnitzel, very similar. It was a big sandwich I split it with my wife, I had a cup of the cabbage soup special, which was very homemade (the carrots were hand cut!) and very well seasoned. We had the chef salad too. Whoa, it was a hell of a salad. I will get it again.
The waitress said they are really know for their steak plate. From what I saw they crushed it. They do a prime rib on Thursdays. I will be back to try the steak dinner.
The place was packed, but very well run, and very clean. There is plenty of free parking in their lot. The prices were very reasonable and the food is good quality.
Also there is a famous battlefield called Tippecanoe located a few minutes from the town. It is worth visiting. It is also a well run park.
Good luck y'all I...
Read moreWent here to celebrate my birthday. Made reservations weeks prior. Arrived about 40 min early and was told we had to wait. I watched another couple who had a reservation at 7:30 get seated at 7:30 while we still waited. Finally after asking when they would get our table ready they finally did so. Seated around 7:45. Didn’t waste any time and ordered drinks then once we got those we ordered appetizers and dinner all at once. Got the appetizers timely. Did not get our food until about 9. My steak was ordered medium and brought out raw. She took it back to cook longer and brought it back still raw. She did take it off the bill……….so for my husband and I to eat two appetizers($9 a piece) $18, one filet $33, extra for his cheese for fries as they ran out of baked potatoes ($1.50)3.00, two drinks specials($7) $14 and a coke 2.75………my math adds to 70.75. Our total on our bill was 87.75. When I asked her why the bill did not add up she said she had to charge me for the cottage cheese and buffalo fries I ate with my dinner. So I guess those were a $17.00 difference???? I’m sad mostly about this not because of the money not adding up but we have been coming here for years and had for the most part always been pleased with food and service. I’m not sure if this was a bad night for them but we will...
Read moreThis is a quaint, smalltown restaurant with great service, generous portions, and well-made food. I had a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. The fries were not sweetened with cinnamon sugar, as is often done, and I appreciated that. They were sweet just from the sweet potato and fried to perfection: not too crispy and not at all soggy. My husband had catfish filets and said they weren't "muddy" but were very delicious. The clam chowder was excellent and clearly made in-house. It wasn't overpowered by the potatoes, nor was it overly fishy, just perfectly balanced. His loaded baked potato arrived with the fixins in portion cups so he could mix and match as he chose. No dessert was on the menu, but we didn't have room when we were done eating, so didn't feel at all deprived. I was pleasantly surprised that items were made from scratch, as many Midwest diners tend to serve the same tired offerings. Not here! I can see why so many locals were eating here. We would eat here again in a heartbeat (we live 2 or 3 hours' drive away), and look forward to a return trip when we're in...
