I can only share our experience with this shop and we only visited for ice cream. Ice cream is something I know about personally as I have worked in the ice cream business for over 25 years. My first impression was that the shop was kind of glum. Nothing cheerful and when you think of an ice cream treat, you want the experiençe to be cheerful... colorful even. We ordered two small milkshakes. I noticed that there didn't seem to be a system for determining the amount of ice cream. The ice cream was not weighed so the consistency of the two shakes were different. My one son ordered a chocolate milkshake. The consistency was good but the flavor was extremely bitter. It was not like a sweet milk chocolate shake, but overwhelmingly tasted like dark chocolate syrup. My son, who who has a strong distaste for peanut butter, took a few sips and complained of a peanut butter taste. Sure enough, he spit out a glob of peanut butter. I took a sip and also got a glob of smooth peanut butter through the straw. Clearly attention to cleanliness is lacking. Either ice cream is dropped into neighboring ice cream containers, or milkshake blenders are not cleaned after each use. The second milkshake we ordered was strawberry. At first, when handed to us, I didn't think it was ours. It was white like vanilla. But the boy handing it to us identified it as the strawberry so I took it. Before giving it to my son, I inspected it through the clear cup and did see a few strawberry chunks. I took a taste, however and there was NO strawberry flavor. Not even a bit. It didn't even taste like vanilla either. The flavor was not distinguishable according to two other adults who tasted and smelled it... one person though maybe banana and peanutbutter but wasn't sure. My son drank it though but he is three and more concerned that others were sipping his shake than the flavor. A good strawberry milkshake is made with strawberry ice cream and at least two or three scoops of strawberry juice from the strawberry sundae topping. This business, in my opinion, clearly does not know how to make a milkshake worth buying let alone returning for. For two poorly made small shakes, I paid almost $13....
Read moreI was down here for the weekend with a couple of friends and we happened to be returning bikes and we lost a key. Not the biggest deal in the world, a simple mistake. As we were returning them to the back an old women with a smug face greeted us. My buddies and I said hey how are you and in return she looked us up and down and said leave them there in a rude and condescending tone. We made her aware that we lost a key and she hollered back, that we must go inside and pay. We obliged and she followed us in. The younger lady at the front desk was made aware of this and started ringing us up. When we let her know we didn’t have money she said of course. We put it on the card we previously paid with. There were plenty of more details and she just overall wasn’t a nice lady. I’m sorry for her employees as them seem afraid of her and in the event she isn’t the owner I would hope her boss realizes how horrible she customer service is. Just lost a bunch of customers in me and everyone I know. Just be a nice person, it can’t be...
Read moreJust a walk up, neighborhood ice cream place (and beach shop) that gets way too full of privileged Brianna's, Buffy's, Chads and Karens (who feel like it's ok to park out front in the bike lane) with affected speech at night. It wasn't always that way but since covid, and the influx of New Yorkers, it's bad. The hard ice cream really is great but skip the soft-serve. Virtually tasteless. It's staffed by kids, so no high expectations for service but they're nice enough and do keep it moving...
