Got there on a Sunday morning @ 7 a.m., ate a country fried steak and eggs with toast, to go. I told the young man, that I wanted the eggs sunny side up, he told the lady cook, "over easy". That really didn't bother me though, because when I ate the eggs, they were COOKED JUST RIGHT! And by that, I mean that the whites of the eggs were cooked all the way through, and the the yolks of the eggs were completely runny, WHICH IS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE! I can't tell you how many people have no idea how to cook an EGG, especially when all they do all day long is cook them! Also have to say that the toast was kind of soggy when getting out to my vehicle to eat the breakfast, but because the food was so steamin' hot, that might have been a major contributing factor. Also, the lady cook asked if I wanted the gravy over the steak, uhm yes. She explained that someone had a fit ordering the steak that way before and said it should have been on the side. MY ASS! Gravy ALWAYS goes on the steak. I'm an EXPERT in eating Country Fried Steak, from coast to coast!
Also ordered a side of sausage gravy and biscuits. The biscuits could have been more desirable, but the gravy made up for it. Also, while waiting for my breakfast to be cooked, the guy chef was preparing fixin's for lunch later on, and had a whole brisket he was cutting up, I said, "Damn - that looks good", and he offered me a piece. It was DELICIOUS. I ate my breakfast in peace, and promptly came back in and ordered a rack of ribs to go. You know - for dinner. I have to say, I was kind of disappointed in the price of the ribs, especially since they were beef, and not pork. I should have asked instead before buying them, but all in all, the ribs were pretty damned good, and just where are you really going to get ribs that are smoked nicely @ 7 a.m. in the morning in this country? NO WHERE. That's right, NO WHERE. Not St. Louis, not Texas, not South Carolina, not Atlanta, NO WHERE. No where that is, but this restaurant!
All in all, if I ever get the chance to pass this way again,...
Read moreBeen driving by here for years and seeing this place and thought it was nothing more than a truckstop type diner, so I never stopped. But theyâve stepped up their social media presence and I decided to stop in to give them a try. We went on a Sunday, around lunch time and it wasnât very busy, though others came in while we were there. Tried the following:
Small Pulled pork sandwich â Meat looked great, but wasnât very flavorful. The non-spicy BBQ sauce was slightly too vinegary. Small chopped beef sandwich â Meat looked great, nice smoke look to it and a decent amount of smoke flavor too. Spicy BBQ sauce was decent. Wouldâve been better with something else on it, perhaps slaw. Âź Chicken â Nice looking smoke to the meat and decent flavor, though not too deep in smokey flavor. It wasnât too dry; it was decent. Baked Beans â Boring⌠not a lot of flavor, definitely not the âtraditionalâ baked beans from a BBQ joint. Potato Salad â Definitely would have been amazing if there was slightly more mayo and more seasoning, like salt & pepper. Cole Slaw â Nice, nearly perfect! Mac & Cheese â Pretty good, cheesy, flavorful. Apple Crisp â Definitely no âcrispâ at all to it, more on the very soft and mushy side. Resembled canned apples and cake mix baked together. I actually liked the flavor though.
Overall, it was OK, but nothing special. It was slightly better than I had expected all the years of riving by though. Worth a try, as Iâm sure many will find...
Read moreTheirs not many good BBQ places in Virgina. Being born and raised in the deep south, I grew up spoiled on good smoked ribs. This place brings me back to my childhood. It's a shame a few things prevent me from giving it a perfect review.
I walk in with my group, ordering was quick and easy. I got some coslaw and some ribs. The coslaw wasn't anything to write home about. It was like the stuff you get at a grocery store. It tastes good, but it somewhat mushy, and has no texture or crunch to it.
Aside from that, they really need to clean their bathroom. A clean bathroom is an indicator of a clean kitchen. It's safe to assume they need to work on sanitation, or at least, have someone clean it regularly.
But I'm not here to talk about the coslaw. No, the main attraction was the pork ribs. They. Were. Perfect. They're fall of the bone tender, with juice running down your with a single bite. Amazing smokey flavor, with the cherry on top being their hot and honey BBQ sauce.
I want so badly to give this place 5 stars, but I can't forgive the sanitation issue. Once this is fixed, I'll gladly give it the rating this...
