Unusual circumstances. I was working at the Rockport, ME Donut Festival on Sat 6/14/25. After packing up, I wandered around the festival checking out the impressive # of local donut creators who were represented at the festival.
Honestly, I sauntered up to Only Doughnut's stand because it was the shortest line. They had a great display and a couple of options that caught my eye (I honestly don't like donuts, or overly sweet things, very much). Particularly: Buttermilk.
I chatted briefly with the awesome friendly person at the register--I remember they had some cool piercings but that's it. They told me about some of the other flavors I was interested in, and they sounded great...but i kept mentally coming back to Buttermilk. I bought one.
Oh gosh, what a donut. Moist, fresh layers (IE a yeast donut instead of a cake donut). Such a buttery taste. And most importantly: Very light on the sugar. This is so important. Too much sweetness overwhelms the other textural/taste elements. This was perfect: A little bit of sweetness to accent, not overcome, the other taste components. I was overwhelmed.    Read moreHoly smokes! It is not hyperbole when I say these donuts are some of the best I have ever tasted. If you want a nice pillowy, sweet treat, this is the place to go! I ordered an assortment, with flavors such as âsea smokeâ, âchocolate glazedâ, and my two favorite, âcitrusâ (which leaves your mouth filled with a nice peppy zing), and the âSimpsonsâ donut (which is exactly what you would imagine Homer drooling over). I came from Bath, and wish I lived closer, because I would stop in every weekend! Also, I showed up right before closing, and the quality of the donuts was still incredible. You folks are doing donuts right! The name is very appropriate. These should be the...
Read moreWe went to The Only Doughnut around 11 am. I think we should have gone earlier because the shelves were almost empty, but it's ok, we still got some yummy donuts. When I took the box of 6 donuts, it was heavy. I didn't notice that they were huge donuts. The car smelled so good, but we had to resist until we got to the cottage. They were still warm, soft, and sooo delicious ! We bought the Homer, Plaine chocolate ganache, toasted coconut, Boston cream, cinnamon sugar, and the maple. I loved them all, but I think the toasted coconut was my favorite. I'm glad I looked up The Only Doughnut when I planned my visit to Belfast. It was...
