The two of us each ordered the roast beef sandwich divided by "mashed potatoes and smothered in gravy." According to the menu, all of the dinner entrees also came with two additional side items (and, therefore, we ordered them). Everything was great, except for the gravy - which seemed more like some sort of vaguely gravy-flavored gel perhaps dispensed from a jar with the aid of a spatula or, possibly, a putty knife) that the cook had customized by adding a half-pound of salt to. Unfortunately, they weren't lying about the "...smothered in gravy" part of the description, so that kind of did a number on the entire thing.
Also, according to the bill, they charged ONE of us a separate fee for each of the two "included" sides, but not the other person. Which makes no sense, whatsoever.
Do NOT order anything here that includes "brown gravy." You have been warned.
We'll probably try the restaurant again, in a year or two (or three). Hopefully, they'll hire a cook who doesn't dump a lot of salt into their gravy, a server who doesn't change her mind about whether to charge extra for the dinner sides halfway through the ticket, and a new - fresher and more realistic, with any luck - jar of gravy. Because, after Carrol closed her restaurant and, later, Steve closed his, there aren't any (other) "family diner" style restaurants to choose from in Belpre, Ohio, except for the Redwood. The Redwood was the best diner in Belpre, 50 years ago. And, I suppose, it still is - by...
Read moreUnfortunately this restaurant has some serious management issues. We use to come here often but the service has gotten worse & worse. Our waitress could only handle one table at a time & I saw one lady & her son wait 20 minutes for a menu. I hope the owner reads this because we will give it one more try before we give up. The food is great & it’s a shame to see the service so poor. Update 11-22-19: heard restaurant under new ownership/management. Service is very good but the food has suffered in portions & quality. Salmon patties are big but dry & bready almost like they used dry bread stuffing. Spaghetti was a kid’s portions size. Sorry, I’m done with this restaurant. Ok...so heard there was A new owner or management. Went today & it was packed. We ordered spaghetti & it was very very spicy. Husband ate 1/2 his & I couldn’t eat mine. Waitress was friendly but didn’t seem to care why we didn’t finish our meal. Apparently the cook thinks spaghetti should be spicy. There’s just too many other restaurants around to keep giving this place...
Read moreThe owner screamed at me in front of her non-crowded restaurant for sitting too long in the booth. I was there for 2 hours. 1 hour eating (with someone I invited who was there for the first time), 45 minutes on a conference call and 15 minutes on my laptop where I had to check a few emails.
She literally made a scene, threatened to call the cops and said that this was not an office. I sat in silence as she walked away. And in stunned disbelief I thought wow...then just as I was getting ready to pack up she came back out (about 30 sec later) and screamed louder...I thought I told you to leave!
So I packed up my things paid the cashier and then walked out to my car. I sat in my car for about 3 minutes updating my FaceBook status about the experience when she came out of the restaurant, banged on my car window and told me to vacate the property immediately!
When I posted this on FaceBook I discovered that 5 of my friends had similar experiences with her and equally said that they are...
