Big Winnie Cafe — Restaurant in Bena

The burgers were not anything exceptional, but, they were good. When walking in, no one in the front. So, we sat ourselves. No problem. Waiter was efficient. No recommendations, no small talk, no welcome. He took our orders and disappeared. Appetizers were brought out early, and hot. We were impressed, as often, they are brought with the meal. Food came out shortly. Burgers and tater tots were good and hot, although the tots were a bit overdone. Waiter acted extremely offended when after sitting for over thirty minutes, my husband went to the counter to pay, and get carryout boxes. Waiter brought out two boxes and threw one on the counter. He then, in an extremely rude voice said "I guess you'll want two". My husband said yes and the container was tossed rudely onto the counter. Upon leaving, I asked the waiter what "drummies" are. When I asked if he could tell me, he raised his voice and asked WHAT? What do you want? I asked and he replied that they are Chicken in an extremely loud and vicious tone. Another customer told me the answer. I have never been talked to so nastily in a place of business. They were not busy. We didn't ask for anything outside of ordering. This guy acted like we had offended him horribly by just coming into the cafe. No wonder people kept avoiding the question of good places to eat around here. Small town cafe atmosphere, right off busy Mn State Hwy 2 about a block. Plenty of parking on or off Co. Hwy 8 & you can call your order in if you're just passing by and in a hurry. Same great food and portion size weather you sit in or carry out... I eat there pretty regularly and now that I just became single again, I'll be eating there a lot more...😁 If you can eat the whole portion, you have a monster appetite... Nice server, food was mixed. Tasty omelettes, bacon and hashbrowns. Huge but too cakey and little flavour in the pancakes. Used more than my liking of artificial, processed ingredients like processed cheese, fake creamer, Aunt Jemima syrup, etc. Prices reasonable for portions. I'd rather have smaller quantities and higher quality, real food ingredients. Also they upcharged for paying w credit.
