We spent the day at Fort Ticonderoga and decided to have dinner in Vermont. We crossed Lake Champlain on the Ticonderoga Ferry, and stopped at a local market to buy bottled drinks. The owner and cashier suggested The Wheel Inn in Benson, VT for dinner when we asked. I must say, what a pleasant surprise! The food was amazing! The service was awesome and they served hardy portions too! Now I expected the usual fare that most restaurants serve, because honestly, most restaurants' food comes off the back of a Sysco truck and it usually tastes pretty similar . Not so with Wheel Inn! I have no idea where they source their food supplies, but it is better than the typical Sysco flavors that most restaurants throw at you. Folks, .. just go there! If you're local or traveling, or just meandering like us, stop in at the Wheel Inn! You will...
Read moreI've never been so disappointed... my husband and I went to celebrate my birthday. We arrived at 6pm, we were seated after 10 minutes, and our drinks, mine water and my husband a beer, were served within 10 minutes, we then sat there for 45 more minutes, before a waitress even came back to take our order. They took our order and we waited another 45 minutes, and then we told them we wanted to take out our meal. By 7:55 pm they finally brought our dinner out. Basically 2 hours to get our meal. UNBELIEVABLE!!! And the prices ridiculous. Oh and while I stood waiting for our meal I watched a cat crawling on top of ice cooler, and a plated salad sat below waiting to be served. Disgusting. I will never go back again. I tipped the waitress handsomely as I know it was beyond...
Read moreWe stopped in for an early dinner on Sunday. The food was great. The desserts were particularly yummy.
My only complaint is that it was pricey for a family-style restaurant. The entrees (chicken pot pie and steak tips) were competitively priced, but the cost of the desserts was surprising. I can see why the dessert prices aren't listed on the menu. $12 for a piece of banana cream pie and $12 for a cinnamon roll and ice cream. To be fair, the desserts were obviously homemade and very large, but I generally skip dessert if I see that the prices are into the double digits - it's just not worth that much to me. Additionally, non-alcoholic drink prices were high ($6 for an iced tea) and some type of surcharge (credit card?) was added...
