Chapter One As I walked into the establishment, the air was filled with anticipation as we awaited to be seated. The service was very professional and quick to respond to my family's witty remarks. The water, though it may only look like city water, came from only the finest springs in Michigan. We sat at our grand, round table under glistening lights and surrounded by nautical decor. The food described in the menus made no comparison to the food that eventually sat in front of me. Smells of every type of meat wafted through the air, and as it plopped into my mouth, I knew that this was where I wanted my ashes to be placed. While this may have looked like a regular family outing, it was anything but. Our family was celebrating my grandma's 100th birthday, and as our plates started to empty, the doubt started to creep in. What doubt, you may be asking. I doubted whether or not my grandma would be receiving a birthday treat from the staff (which, I may add, is the only advantage of coming to restaurants on your birthday). When all hope was lost like the food on our plates, our waiter came out, his glasses perched carefully on the bridge of his nose, carrying, you guessed it, a birthday treat. It was the most grand hot fudge sundae I had ever laid my eyes upon (it was tasty too, she let me have a bite or two). At this, I KNEW a review on the Google was necessary. Read moreThis place is as hard to leave as it is hard to find! Very friendly staff and wonderful food. The owner met us at the door as we arrived and assured me that we we not the first ones who's GPS took them in circles near, but not to, this beautiful hidden treasure. Located in an extraordinarily awesome area on the Cheboygan River near where it flows into the incomparably beautiful Mullet Lake, this century old building provides a wonderful experience in itself. The staff, menu and chef take it the rest of the way to 5 stars! Ask Julie (hostess/owner) to show you the very cool tamarack tree outside the restaurant-- the type of which many of the hand hewn beams that are visible everywhere in this special place are crafted. I recommend the Walleye which is often on the special board, or the Prime Rib or Whitefish which are among their signature dishes. You will not be...
Read moreFirst off, the food was excellent. The duck and prime rib were both fantastic. Our waitress was great. She did a lot of running, but still managed to stay on top of things. The view is great. If you can't enjoy the river, then you won't like this place. We sat right next to the window where the kettle sits and the raccoons come up at night and eat rolls. My grandson absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is fantastic as well. I only have 2 issues with this place. First, there is no air conditioning, so be prepared to sweat. It is HOT in there. Second...and this was my biggest disappointment...I didnt get to try any of the dessert. And it looked FANTASTIC! The menu is limited, but what they do,...
