Old Filling Station — Restaurant in Benton

Normally this place has great friendly service & surprisingly good food. However this visit was extremely bad & irritating. I placed an order at 12 noon for pick up & the gentleman who took my order said it would be 30 minutes. I get there at 12:35pm and its pretty packed in there like usual. After about 10 minutes of standing in front of the register the man who took my order asked if I needed help & I told him I called in the pick up order. I truly believe either he forgot to put the ticket order in or the cook screwed up tremendously as he said it'll be a couple minutes for it to be done. Fast forward another 25 min (over 1hr total) my order finally comes out. I pay for my order & gave him a 20% tip to be fully irritated and disappointed once I got home. The grilled chicken caesar wrap I ordered was crispy deep fried chicken w/chips I clearly stated I didn't want & substitute with coleslaw w/upcharge, the chilli I requested NO CHEESE was topped with a tremendous amount of cheese, the omelette my gf ordered with wheat toast came with white toast, & the black coffee I ordered was only filled a little over half way. I visit here about twice a month & never seen this young guy who took my order there. Either he's terrible with listening or the chef just didn't care & made whatever they wanted. I understand places can get busy during certain times but DONT tell a customer a certain time to only have it over double the wait time. I literally stood there longer than the wait time I did at home which was truly truly irritating & could have used my time better for something else. Also how can a place screw up so bad on an order that was even repeated by the order taker? What if one had allergies/lactose...

Went to eat lunch and ordered the chicken finger plate with 2 sides. Dining area was empty. Sat at a table in one of the small sections and the waitress was very friendly. Was aggravated by flies at the table. Waitress even gave my friend a flyswatter. Food came and the salad was great, the French fries were tasty and the chicken fingers were so overcooked you could hardly cut them with a knife. Went to look for the waitress and tell her we couldn't eat them. She told the cook and said he was going to cook more. At this point I just said we didn't want another order. Told the waitress she could take the chicken fingers back. My friend ate her French fries but I left mine. Went to pay our check and asked what we owed and she said she adjusted the bill. The bill ended up being almost 20.00 I was surprised to see they charged for the salad and fries. I didn't have a problem with the charge for the soda and coffee but the charges for the meal was not expected. Would not go back to this restaurant again or recommend it. We have been going to The Old Filling Station for a quite a few years. We go about a half dozen times a year. We used to get the AYCE Fish, which was excellent, but then they did away with that. Then we started getting the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich, which was excellent. The beef was so tender and it came shredded. Now, the beef isn't as tender and they don't shred it anymore. It comes in big slices piled on top of the bread with very little gravy, at least that's the way ours came. I have a feeling it's not even the same cut of beef. The taste is very good. But, we didn't think it was as good as it was before. It's a nice little restaurant. The waitress was very nice and checked on us several times.
