Ruby’s Diner — Restaurant in Benton

We were looking for the quintessential friendly diner spot to get breakfast on the road and we found it. It was after 11 (the breakfast time cut-off) but Tami made an exception for us. We ordered the western omelette with all the fixings and the breakfast plate with over-easy eggs, what they call tater tots (their version of home fries), and country ham. The omelette was oozing with cheese, peppers, ground beef, and yet the egg was thin and delicate--served with a side of silky hash browns. The full breakfast came with a buttery warm home-baked biscuit, and the ham was deliciously briny, the taters scrumptious, and the eggs perfectly executed. When Tami noticed our dog in the car, she emerged from the kitchen with a foil-wrapped biscuit and bacon. The coffee was bottomless. Next time we're driving through Tennessee we're definitely...

We stopped here for lunch, the sign read please be seated. We sat down at table, waited for several minutes ~6 minutes. The restaurant was at around 25% capacity. While we were seated, the waitress came to the table next to us twice with food, but never acknowledged us. We observed a man come in after we had been there for over five minutes. He was attended to immediately. Within 30 seconds he received silverware wrapped in a napkin, or something similar, received a drink and placed his order. We noticed three waitresses, all appeared to have looked our way, one was eating food behind the counter, and one appeared to be attending to someone else's child. We can't rate the food, because we didn't get waited on. We left, no response from any of the staff. I guess since we weren't locals they didn't care...

A local favorite just off the main road. The people are warm and welcoming, the service was exceptional, and the food exceeded my expectations. The meal I had earned me a free pancakes on my next visit. Apparently, no one ever finishes the massive pancakes the cook makes and I managed to put 3 of them away. Overall, I had a wonderful time talking to the locals and the food I was served. I will definitely be sure to stop if I am in the area.
