SPUDNUTS”, originated in small shop in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1946. Bob and Al Pelton were looking for a recipe that would make a better doughnut and started experimenting with potato dough. Working endless hours, they peeled, boiled and mashed thousands of potatoes until they finally arrived at just the right combination of ingredients. These included choice mashed Idaho potatoes, mountain grown wheat flours and spices from all over the world. The Pelton Brothers knew they had hit it – the perfect recipe for a consistently light, fluffy, tender potato doughnut with a unique delicate flavor. They appropriately dubbed the product “SPUDNUT” in honor of the slang word for potato, “SPUD”

As popularity of “SPUDNUTS” grew, the Pelton’s started experimenting with dry flours to replace the nightly drudgery of peeling, boiling and mashing potatoes needed to produce their product. Finally, an Idaho potato processing firm developed a potato flour that ended their search. The potato flour gave the product the same unique characteristics, and best of all, “SPUDNUTS” could now be made from a dry shippable mix. In April 1949, BEREA’s SPUDNUT SHOP became one of the first franchised dealers in the nation and remains one of the few original SPUDNUT SHOPS.

For nearly 30-years, The SPUDNUT SHOP was located at 95 Front Street. In 1970 Urban Renewal caused a temporary re-location to 15 Riverside Drive. In 1976, BEREA’S SPUDNUT SHOP moved to the newly remodeled building at 650 PROSPECT ROAD. Today, as in 1949, SPUDNUTS maintains its unique, delicate flavor which truly makes it “THE UPPER CRUST OF THE...

I find it interesting when a shop (most always small business) gets a not so great review how suddenly a bunch of vague 5 star reviews come rolling in from accounts with very few reviews. Could you be any more obvious you are desperate to keep your 4.7 star rating Spudnuts? Also, it is disappointing when the ownership does not address any of the reviews whether they are 5 star or 1 star. To me, that says a lot about how little the owner really cares.

I always get the same donuts here (Butter Pecan cream filled and Oreo cream filled) and suddenly today that cream filled is a round donut with very light toppings (and no cream). I just have to wonder what was the reason for this change? Also, I ordered 5 donuts and when I picked my 5 the girl putting them in the box told me I had to get a 6th? Why can I not buy 5 donuts as they are listed as $1.50 each (no discount for a half dozen or dozen)? I hope this isn't a case where the owner is trying to cheap out by not putting filling in the donuts any longer and forcing the workers...

Yes I echo Stacy Primack’s review. This place is very clean I can give them that, but the donuts tasted bland and fake. They should start using more all natural organic ingredients and real organic fruits for their fillings. That will have people lining up for miles just to get one donut. This place has so much potential it’s crazy, their staff are super nice and polite and it’s super clean, they just need to change the recipe on their donuts. Because when you taste the donuts you wait for that big flavor and it not there, but the size and super soft texture is there just the flavor is missing. I think if they started using organic fruits, sugar like agave, vanilla or nutmeg or something like that it will make a big difference; somethings missing. Spudnut, pray on it you’ll get it, you’re too much of a great business to not stay around for more generations! - The company has been around since 1976! You got this!! I believe the company can be bigger than Dunkin’ donuts!

I usually don't like sweets, but have been craving donuts lately, so I finally caved and took a walk to spudnuts. The girl that helped me was super personable, kind, and patient. I expressed how I don't like filling because it's too sweet for me and she offered to make me one of just the ring donuts with the cream and pecans on top. Love that she was willing to take a moment and help me customize! Obviously the quality of donut was also really good - fluffy, soft, flavorful, good size, not too heavy (particularly the classic glazed wasn't too heavy). I was able to sample a cake donut which was very helpful (ended up getting one). So, overall, great experience and great donuts! Side note on price: Single - $2.00 Half dozen - $12.00 Dozen - $12.00 So, a liiiittle steep on the price but good for the ocasional splurge. - the ONLY reason for 4 stars, but maybe I'm just cheep 🤷🏽‍♀️

After reading stellar reviews, and I was craving something fluffy, I stopped in. Cases were full of fresh donuts, on a Thursday at lunchtime. Back in the day, using potatoes in your donut meant a much fluffier airy donut. So, I get why they do. Here's my gripe. They are fat in size, but somewhat meh in flavor. If you are looking for a puffy fluffy roll with manufactured icing on top, then this is your place. $9 for a half dozen rolls basically with paste on the top. While the donuts are not sickening sweet, the custard they use for the filled donuts is bland. I semi enjoyed the one with the toasted pecans on it. The rest were just pomme de terrible. So basically, all fluff here, and I'd hesiTATEr to come back.
