MJ's Restaurant Bar And Grill — Restaurant in Berkeley Township

So today I am at MJ‘s restaurant, bar and Grill in Bayville, New Jersey for lunch with a friend. This building is located right on the bay, on a clear day. It would’ve been much prettier, but heavy ground fog was hanging around everywhere.

I had never been here before and told the sushi was the best in that area so me and my friend Bob decided to go there for lunch. He had been there many times and highly recommended it. The only issue was that the sushi part doesn’t open until 4 PM and it was just noon when we got there.

So it ended up being a really nice hamburger for me, and chicken wings for Bob, which looked absolutely great, and he says they are very good there.

The service is stuck out the young man who is the server was on the spot didn’t bother us. We were there for three hours, talking and catching up. It had been nearly 20 years since we had seen each other and it was amazing how we took off just as we did Back then. The atmosphere was light for a lunch crowd, so nobody was chasing us out the door for a spot, so our server came around when he thought we needed something he was perfect absolutely perfect and that would be the highlight of this meal. Cause good service is not, easy to find.

I’m coming back for the sushi and I think the rating is going to go way up. And I can say that was the only thing that I could complain about, but if we had searched it, we would’ve known 4 o’clock with sushi hour. That was on me.

Yes, I’m coming back here, not sure when but I think pretty soon I’ll add anything to this review but it was nice I can see how when that place is packed it’s pretty big and the noise level of my climb drastically but I still don’t think you’d have any problem hearing each other across the booth.

Give it a try, I recommended, and that’s only by having a burger but man and wings look good. Please like if you enjoy the review. Thanks.

Update 2-28-24

Just went here to finally try that sushi that they didn’t have available at lunch because they start serving at 4 PM. Well this was a Wednesday and we go inside and yet again the sushi bar is closed, had no idea they weren’t open on Wednesdays. I should read some of these reviews sometimes lol

So we left and my friends knew of another place for sushi and that review is coming soon, but let’s just say the sushi was very good and their drink sucked but back to MJ’s.

So this trip was less than 10 minutes and we sadly left to find food elsewhere, but I don’t know if that changes my review or not, a little research and we wouldn’t have had that issue. We could’ve gone another night. I can’t blame the restaurant for that , although it’s sad that they’re closed in the very middle of the week when I would think they’d make a fortune.

This place is situated in such a beautiful place. Great, place to sit and enjoy a cold beer right on the waterfront. Very dog friendly, and the live music was awesome. As for the food, I'll make this very simple and easy to understand. Nachos-average, French Onion Soup- cheese was great, everything else wasn't. Sirloin steaks 10oz -dry, Volcano burger-very good except for the pickle that looked like it was laying around the kitchen for a day and somebody found it and served it to me. As for the service, absolutely bad 👎. We walked in through the outside exit and as I'm walking in I ask a worker, " do we sit anywhere or do we get seated" and he said we could " sit wherever we wanted" which we did. I walked up to the outside bar and got some drinks, went back to my table and waited for somebody, anybody to come with menus for us to look at. So we waited and waited and waited, we waited a good 20 minutes before I had to actually get up and walk into the restaurant to ask for a menu. We come to learn that I guess everybody has to go into the restaurant even if you want to sit outside and let the hostess seat you which is fine but how the hell are we supposed to know that? There was waitresses in and out serving food so you would think they would've let us know something but instead they let us sit there in the food serving area looking stupid waiting on service that non of them had plan on giving us. When she finally got to us she didn't even ask what we wanted for drinks. Granted we had already been through 2 rounds of drinks before I even got my own menu but I don't only driink beer. I wanted water as well but, no drinks was offered. Although I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place I really didn't want to be there so long. I had a long drive back to Pennsylvania, and I was stuck here waiting for waitress...

I have lived up the road from this one for the past 4 months and didn't even know it was over here until my mom wanted to take me somewhere for my birthday the other day. I googled restaurants in the area, only knowing of a few, and when I saw MJs, I decided on that. I have eaten at other MJs locations before, the first time was after a friend's funeral that I had attended years ago. I always liked their food and atmosphere. Every location has their own added touch. I've gone to MJs for weddings before too... they are not a bad place at all! This location in particular, in Bayville, blew my mind!! I had no idea that they were located right on the water! They have their own little beach! We sat outside and enjoyed a really beautiful view. We had a few drinks with our delicious dinner, they even had a band! The entire experience between the atmosphere, the service, and the food quality, I give this place a 5 star rating!!!! 👏👏 I really enjoyed visiting this establishment for my birthday, and I will definitely come back here.
