We went to the Redhead Ciderhouse yesterday and it was a lovely little surprise! I had read the reviews and I was excited to go out there and try the hard cider. They had 6 varieties, some sweet and some dry. I prefer dry, so my favorite was the "smooth hoperator." I wouldn't consider it super hoppy, but it was smooth and dry. It would be a hard cider I could drink all day in the summer. My second favorite was the "Black Apple" which seemed to be a cider mixed with a stout style beer. It had an interesting maple finish. I will be back this summer for sure! Make sure if you come out for a visit to arrive before 4pm so you can sit and enjoy, since they do close at 5:30pm normally. But that works fine for me since my preference on weekends is day drinking ;)

Farm store atmosphere. Staff friendly but lots of confusion about what cider was in stock or could be sold. Tasted 8 ciders, liked 4 of them very much. These are all semi sweet to very sweet. However they were out of growlers, out of two ciders in take away 4 packs, and were selling a "limited release" cider only on tap today, holding back all the 4 packs until tomorrow (signage had prices for growlers, glasses and 4 packs). We ended up getting two 4 packs, at $4 a can. Delicious but pricey and frustrating.

Decided to stop by after a day up on the lake, and we were NOT disappointed. Each of the samples were $1, and with seven ciders on tap, it was very inexpensive to try out all the flavors before you bought anything. I really appreciated that their standard cider was pretty mild and not overly sweet, I think a lot of places fall for the standard cider being incredibly sugary but this was a very balanced cider in my opinion. Their more eccentric flavors were also delicious, the Jalapeno (Hot Chick) was a shocking favorite for my group and I personally was obsessed with both the seasonal cranberry and cherry (Naughty Sauce) and blackberry (Blackberry Shandy). They did have limited options as to what you could get the 12 oz cans versus the 14 oz cans, but none of the flavors I wanted were effected by that so it wasn't a real issue to me. Would definitely recommend stopping by sometime and I'm going to have to keep an eye out for events here because the chili cook off sounds TEMPTING with the allure of some of these ciders...

I haven't been to Burnham Orchards. I did look it up though on Google maps and it looks like a very nice place. It's a little over an hour away from me. I did pay the $14+ dollars for 4 ($3.50 a can) price to try the Red Head Apple Pie Hard Cider though. They're not kidding. I can taste the crust. The spices are just right and the quality is confirmed on your taste buds. This is the real deal. Personally I would have been OK with a little more carbonation but maybe that might have masked the flavors more? Either way, it's unique and has me feeling happy. So 5 stars for what seems to be a superior farm to table product. Will probably pick it up again....
