Uncle D's Diner — Restaurant in Berlin

Second time here and had an issue the first time but decided to try it out again, had the same server we had the last time who gives unsolicited advice, but this time around they brought the adults food first and not the children's and then one child plate and A(server intial on check) had the nerve to tell us they can share this until the other plate comes out. EXCUSE ME? Last I checked we paid for two children's plates and we don't need you telling us what our children can share and 2 hungry 3 yr olds are not going to want to share. Then once we get the other child's plate it had a black mark on the chicken from a dirty spatula cutting it open. Our server then forgot my biscuit and gravy which I should've let her cause it was gross. Then she proceeded to never return to the table again after dropping off food, didn't come back until 20 min later to drop off the check after it took 30 min just to get our food. No straws provided unless for kids cup never had chance to ask waitress cause she never returned. I wouldn't say this place is to kid friendly and this server always seems to be in a mood and needs to keep her comments to herself about what someone's children can share because she's not their parent. We watched as others who came in after us were being waited on. When finally waited on the waitress was pleasant not friendly. She seemed scared actually. There was a smile with no small talk. My family loves service that makes us feel at home. The food was ok not spectacular at all. We were asked by a second waitress if we needed more butter. Very observant of her. Still not friendly. Flies were hovering around the table. Breakfast was over $50. If the food was spectacular this would not have been mentioned in this review. The owners son made us wait to pay as he is having a full on conversation with someone and scrolling through his phone. It took him about 3mins to acknowledge us. Yes. 3mins!!!!! Other gracious customers was waiting as well but was sincerely kind in allowing us to go first. After paying the owners son throw the card on the table and DID NOT say anything at all. Had to ask if the transaction was complete. With a big smile he said yes. It felt like he couldn’t wait for us to leaves. 2018- Totally unexpected. Great food, fresh fruit, and an offer of donuts for the kids. We just stopped while traveling and were pleasantly surprised. 2019- Again traveling, we took the time (2 min off highway) to stop both northbound and southbound a week later for a great meal. I really can’t stress enough how much I like Uncle D’s. As others have said, it’s the whole package, great food, reasonable prices, and staff who really care. From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave, everyone is pleasant, and takes the time to care. The service stands above even some of the finest restaurants I’ve been to. Add that to a clean facility that’s conveniently located and you’ve got a spot we’ll be visiting for years to come. 2024- We’ve now been coming here for years. While we don’t live close, Uncle D’s is our go to place anytime we’re near Hartford. They consistently provide great food & fantastic service in a fun atmosphere.
