I'm new to the area. Well, I've been here four years. I come from a very large metropolitan area with more than eight million people. Lots of choices there. I passed by Pisgah any number of times (How often do residents of Swannanoa and Black Mountain go by?) before I realized that the real deal was in the back.
We wandered back there. This is before Hurricane Helene tore us to shreds. There was a bar under a tent near a pretty large stage. The server lived in our neighborhood and was very interesting. McG is what she called herself. She knows a lot of people we know so we drank excellent beer and had good conversation. The other server (not on duty) came in and spoke to her and then went on about his business. We interacted a bit and he was nice.
Fast Forward.
Hurricane Helene happened and our area looked like a tsunami hit it. Local breweries and restaurants were wiped from the face of the planet. It's very sad.
Fast Forward.
We decided to do an afternoon visiting breweries for one beer. We go out and then hit three establishments on our way home. Pisgah is pretty close to home and was our last stop of the day.
The server who had not been on duty in the pre-hurricane location recognized us and thanked us for coming into the new building. I think that building was under construction before. It is a fine spacious interior space. There is a small entertainment stage on one side of the space in the black box theater style. We had a Whaleback and a Grey Beard as we both like IPA's. Both very tasty. We had a nice time and said we'd go back.
A month or so later we got a message that a neighbor's son was performing there. We thought it would be nice to turn out in support. Most of our neighbors were there and others that we know from the community. It was a lovely evening and the Pisgah Brewery space was comfortable and accommodating.
I would recommend Pisgah Brewery as a comfortable neighborhood hangout. The staff and clientele are pleasant. I think that this is a great place for visitors and I would recommend it as a pleasant place with tasty beer. I think it's (as a city slicker in the past) a pretty good people watching place. It's a great place to see the nice people who live in the Swannanoa Valley and I know that they will appreciate the support and trade.
Please go buy beer! I like the Grey...
Read moreThis is one of the best outdoor venues in NC, if not the best in the South East (per capacity). You sit Nestle in the Swannowa valley, Pisgah Brewing Co. has been doing this thing since 2005, they still have the same principal as they started with, âTreat yourselfâ and âWe all Drink downstreamâ. These quotes are the way the Brewery wants to think. In the beginning Pisgah used to have people come out and share what they made with the public. They were always conscious of what they put in their beer. Thus always using local support Sources(meaning using local coffee and chocolate companies). One of the only breweries that uses whole leaf hops. Therefore, This is one of the only breweries in the area that did not follow the mainstream model of what you should do with a brewery. Pisgah stays true in in fast moving industry to what they want to do. I am not going to preach about how wonderful this place is. Those that make the venture outside of Asheville can vouch for me. So if ever in Asheville, make the trip out to Pisgah. Who knows who you might run into. Cheers to 12 years of...
Read morePisgah Brewing is a standout among many craft breweries in Asheville. First of all the beer is very creative in the selections, I have never had a bad one. Sure some I like more than others, but all are top quality.
I also like the music they bring...I have been introduced to several acts here that have since, blown up. Most notably for me was seeing Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds full band. They had 5 horns in addition to guitar bass and drums, plus Arleigh and Jackson on harp. The first time I saw them there were more people on stage than in the audience....now they are touring nationally and just did Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF.
Then the outdoor stage...wow. I have seen Lucinda Williams. The Infamous Stringdusters. The Wood Bros. Steep Canyon Rangers. and a whole list more. The vibe inside and out is so chill, you can just vibe with no worries.
One caution...it is a bit out so pace yourself...it's easy to end up sleeping in the parking lot. Check for shuttle service, drink...
