We researched the best BBQ spot between Huntsville, AL and Memphis, TN for a lunch stop, and after a little digging, we landed on Mike’s BBQ House. When I saw that Friday was Rib Day, the choice was easy—even if it meant going a little off the beaten path.
We ordered a half rack of ribs to split, plus a smoked sausage sandwich for me, a jumbo pulled chicken sandwich for my counterpart, and potato salad and baked beans to share. The couple running Mike’s were an absolute delight, and since we came around 2 p.m., after the lunch rush and before dinner, we had the place to ourselves.
The ribs? Fall-off-the-bone perfection, dusted with dry rub and packed with that strong smoke flavor I look for. Easily the star of the meal. The smoked sausage—a butterflied hot link with BBQ sauce and optional coleslaw—was good, just not quite rib-level good. The pulled chicken was tender and flavorful, but again, the ribs stole the show.
Both sides leaned a little sweet, but that didn’t stop me from cleaning my plate. Outdoor tables make it easy to enjoy your meal on site, and honestly, we’re already talking about swinging back on our way home just to grab more ribs to take with us.
If you’re anywhere near Tupelo, Mike’s BBQ House is worth the stop—especially on...
Read moreWe were looking for some REAL barbecue, and after reading the reviews on Mike's, we decided to check it out. We passed several barbecue joints, with good 4.5 ratings, on our way to Mike's. Tho a bit off the beaten track, and only one other car in the parking lot (it was a Friday afternoon, bout 5:00, so we weren't too surprised at the lack of customers), we went on in. And boy howdy, are we glad we did! We got ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken, with beans and slaw. Mike's dry rubbed ribs are delicious, the pulled chicken was moist and flavorful and the pulled pork very tasty. The seasoning in the rub on the ribs is so perfect, smokey with a little heat, that the mop sauce wasnt even needed. Tho we used the sauce, which is homemade and delicious!,on the chicken and pulled pork. You get your moneys worth of mouthwatering 'cue! As we were leaving, the parking lost was filling up fast. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and had enough leftover to bring home and make another meal, with some corn on cob, for the next day! Get there early, tho, as they close at 7, and are closed...
Read moreI consider myself a BBQ connoisseur since I'm a huge carnivore. I try and share my experiences from around Mississippi, as well as other areas I frequent in the deep south. So do yourself a huge favor, don't miss out on Mike's BBQ! It was just me... everyone was gone for the weekend, so I got a half slab of ribs, a pound of the pulled pork, along with an order of BBQ pulled pork nachos. Nice little bite of heat that leaves you wanting more. The smoke ring on the ribs, and the chew on point. Tender enough to fall off the bone. I saw big Mike as he was preparing my order, he had some special seasoning he sprinkled over everything... and to be honest I was thinking why is he doing THAT. UNTIL I TOOK A BITE. Come'on Big Mike, tell us what's in that shaker! It truly made this one of the BEST BBQ venues I've been to in Mississippi! I would love to have posted pics, but it smelled so good, I barely made it home without breathing into my stash! See...
