Single order and a tea on Fathers Day. Was excited about the new place. Waited an hour. Went back to front and asked the cashier if they forgot about me. I've seen take out orders and others come and go. Went back to sit down, (sometimes this happens, ill give them a chance to fix it)
I watched others come in and have a seat and got their food before me, after I notified them. Frustrated, I gave up and asked for money back after an hour and a half.
*The guy in the black shirt said they were not open but 2 days and a new guy gave my order away to someone else at the cashier. He wanted me to wait a second for the food after the refund. The chance to get my food was the second time I aproached the cashier, actually as i first ordered it. I just walked out.
*Bussiness was steady but not that busy. Guy in a Nike cap was eating fries in the kitchen window, another guy wiping his face with gloves on, hope he changed them, your guess is as good as mine. The seating area girl just wiped off the table with her hand. In fish places, tables need to be properly cleaned, or you see the smudges of the previous person. The chairs are cloth and discolored from peoples hands. Cloth chairs should never be in a seafood restaurant because you simply can't clean them properly. My chair when I got up for refills had a puddle of water under it from a leak beside the window when it rains. Overall, dirty window seals and a lack of care from the seating area girl.
*I got my money back, and they said wait one minute for the food. I was just so disappointed and wanted to get somewhere to eat and wasn't going to wait any longer. I hope the person who got my food enjoyed it.
*overall opinion, a mess, i just wanted to eat some fish on...
Read moreJust tried this place for the first time tonight - very impressed with the food in particular! As most people know, seafood when inland can be very hit or miss. I got the fish, chicken and shrimp platter (grilled) with coleslaw and red beans & rice, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The proteins were topped with grilled peppers and onions, and I wish I had taken my phone to snap a pic because it really was a colorful, great looking plate of food. As another reviewer noted, yes the fish had a yellow coloring but I don't think it was because it was cooked in olive oil (and honestly if it was, GREAT, that's one of the healthiest oils and we use it at home all the time!). I think it was more likely turmeric, but either way the fish was delicious and not dry. Just about perfect for my tastes.
The grilled platter was great, well-seasoned, NOT full of oil, and overall it felt like a very healthy and satisfying dinner. I can't speak for the fried food, which I'm sure is good too but I just choose not to eat like that anymore most of the time. But the option is there if you want it!
The Mayflower restaurant left a seafood "void" in Bluefield VA when they closed, leaving only Captain D's and the misc. seafood dishes at other restaurants to fill the slack...and don't get me wrong, sometimes Fincastle or the local Mexican restaurants will have a good entree with fish, but seafood is in the name of this restaurant so if it didn't have good seafood options that would've been really disappointing! So it's great to finally have another place that focuses on seafood without having to drive over to Princeton. Will definitely be going back. I hope they make it unlike the two coffee shops that were previously in...
Read moreIt's rare when my kids all agree on anything, especially food. So when we find a place that pleases everyone's palate, it's more than dinner; it's peace.
This newly spot may still be getting its decor together and training wheels off, but don't let that fool you. The flavor game is fully grown. From seafood to chicken to burgers, everything we tried had bold, balanced seasoning you don’t usually find all under one roof.
The menu is a world tour on paper. It's loaded with choices and dotted with unexpected delights like perfectly crisp baklava and other savory surprises you won’t find at your typical Southern joint. While the place may not ooze local cowboy charm, the hospitality feels richer, generous, attentive, and quietly polished. You can feel a kind of tradition at work here that's warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted.
They’ve also thoughtfully split the vibes: an outdoor area that’s dog- and smoker-friendly and an indoor space perfect for families, especially if you’re keeping the kids away from smoke and distractions.
We ordered big: four dinners, two apps, and dessert, and the service still kept pace. The Po' Boys? Stacked and satisfying. I had to box up half for tomorrow’s lunch, and I’m already...
