Parts of this review would get 5 stars. However, other parts would get zero. We just stayed a couple nights at Lost Pines for snowmobiling.
Location was AMAZING. You will have a hard time finding a place to stay where the trails are all around you like Lost Pines. The trails were groomed well with stunning views. However, the location makes it a bit tricky to get to in the heart of winter as most of the roads are un-plowed to allow snowmobilers. Don't listen to your google maps, call and get the best route.
The room was a time capsule. Not much had been updated since at least the 60's including the mattresses. The room consisted of a queen bed, and two single beds. There was a tv with about 3 or 4 channels, no wifi, and no Verizon cell service. The shower was the bright spot in the room, not because of its appearance, but because of the function. I don't remember having that much water dumped on me at a water park and it was plenty hot. BTW, bring your own shampoo and conditioner- they are not supplied- there was a tiny bar of soap (just bigger than a piece of gum) There is not a coffee maker or blow dryer in the room so if you are the type of person who functions on coffee (before the breakfast area opens at 7:30ish) you might want to bring your own. We did not eat the breakfast buffet at the lodge as we didn't bring CASH.
The bar downstairs was a local hotspot. Snowmobilers from all around come to have drinks and unwind. Not the place where you are going to get table service- you will need to go up to the bar and order your drinks, then sit down at your table. It is a basic domestic beer and shot type place. Don't expect to get a craft beer or craft cocktail. The staff was very nice and accommodating for what it was. We saw that they had food on their chalkboard but I didn't ever see anyone actually ordering/eating it. The bartender was great at giving you recommendations of where to get lunch or dinner. The bar will take your credit card with a $10 min charge and 4% surcharge for using it. The drink prices are pretty cheap so it wasn't a huge deal to not have cash at the bar as long as you were going to stay and have a few drinks.
If you are the type of person that will be at the bar until it closes, stumble upstairs to your room, pass out, get up at 9am to do it all over again, you will LOVE this place. However, if you are bringing your kids, or plan to be in bed by 9pm and the sounds of loud music and snowmobiles racing outside your window will bother you, you might plan to stay elsewhere.
If I were going to snowmobile in the area again, I probably would stay here again but I would be better prepared. I will bring a 4" foam mattress pad, a coffee maker, CASH, ear plugs, shampoo, soap, conditioner, and a blow dryer. The closest store was 20+ min away...
Read moreI booked this Lodge, sight unseen, in order to find accommodation's for my adult|son and I that was close to a weekend event in which we were participating. There is a annual trail run in the area that draws participants from all around the county. I literally pulled up Google maps and took a chance on a place to stay. The Lost Pines Lodge is FANTASTIC. The best way I can describe Lost Pines Lodge is to say that it is like a throwback to a Lodge of yester year in all the BEST possible ways. Family owned and operated, very CLEAN and comfortable, and extremely friendly and inviting. The lodge has a tavern/restaurant attached. The food (pizza, burgers, wings, salads, etc) is excellent. The atmosphere is very fun. Our hosts and their family perform most of the jobs from what I can tell, and are very interactive with the guests. It does not take long before you feel like you are visiting old family friends. It does not take long for strangers to become friends. These folks are the best! The location is out of the way in a beautiful natural setting - but close enough to anything you might need for an Up North getaway. Additionally, it is clear that the tavern/restaurant is a local favorite. Folks arriving on 4 wheelers and every type of off road vehicle, as well. There was live music on the Sat night we were there. I can see why this popular. My son and I have registered for the trail run in 2026, and cannot wait to stay at the Lost Pines Lodge during that trip! A new...
Read moreWe stayed here this past week for one night. I didn't realize it was overtop a bar and was a little concerned about noise. However once we got into the room I noticed first that there was zero smell to the room. Honestly it was great- it didn't smell like a hotel room, nor did it smell overly of cleaning chemicals. Secondly I notice that the bar noise was nearly non-existent and not enough to disturb sleep. I had initially booked through hotels. com and accidentally did it for the wrong day. Of course I had to go through them to try to adjust it, and of course they were impossible (they tried calling Lost Pines one time and when they had to leave a voicemail, they sent me an email saying that after "several" attempts to contact the property, they were not able to get confirmation of a date change". I immediately called the Lodge and the woman who answered was a gem. She said that she was not available when they called, but it had only happened a few minutes ago, and she'd only had time to listen to the voicemail. She said, "well let's just take care of this right now". A few clicks later and she had my dates adjusted. She was honestly great and very kind and patient with my frustrated self. This place is 100% in the middle of nowhere, but it was great in my opinion. My city boy counterpart was less thrilled with it, but he's never stayed anywhere that he has sketchy cell service on...
