Toby K's Hideaway — Restaurant in Boone

Best "bar food" in central Iowa & best prices, too! Staff is always upbeat & happy, but most of all, accommodating. Great atmosphere but seems to attract a younger crowd generally. It is the Hangout bar for the towns future up-and-comers, so grab a chair & meet those who will one day in the future run the town. The owner, Toby, often is found enjoying time in the place as another patron himself and just as frequently is found working behind the bar. This hands-on approach keeps him in the know & problems (if there ever is any) are handled promptly. Any problems at all? The Good: The gyro was as good as I have ever had. The beer battered fries with ranch were very tasty.

The Bad: I was very disappointed when, after I received my appetizer and entrée, the owner - Toby - shouted across from the bar how much food I had ordered and how hungry I must be and the entire restaurant turned to look. I am a larger guy at about 250lbs. and Toby's comment came across like "Look at how much food the fat guy ordered." At this point, I certainly felt like I didn't belong here. Lastly, the chicken nachos were disappointing. The chicken was grilled, so the char flavor dominated the other flavors. It didn't taste much like nachos. Also, only the top layer of the nachos had anything on them - the rest of it was just a pile of plain, broken...

I am a hurricane victim from Fla been here 2 months and was excited about ur bar until some men said to me at bar that Ibwas there to drain Iowan's and why should they pay for my misfortune.. wow was I taken back .I stayed kool I was talking to gentleman next time me when the two men on the end of the bar made me feel like it was my fault I lost everything.. wow used to live in West Dea Moines and loved the people in Iowa so I came back with my son . After that comment from them I left. Was very unsatisfied with bar patrons. So sad was hoping to try ur chicken gizzards...
