4/5 stars in comparison to all the food options in the area, better than most. They have a convenient option of being able to order food via an online service. It made ordering food on the road a breeze.
3/5 stars for my own personal rating as I have had much better BBQ in PA. The meats we smoke at home have yet to be beat by any restaurant we have ordered from in the north.
We pass by this spot from time to time and love their cheesesteak sandwich and feel it’s always a good consistent menu item to order. Cheesesteak: 5/5 Served hot, seasoned moist meat, good ratio of filling, sauce and cheese to the hoagie bun. If you don’t know what to try, get the cheesesteak and add mushrooms if you like those. ORDER THIS!
The last trip here we got ribs, which weren’t memorable to us so we didn’t order those again. We also ordered the brisket and pulled pork combo with 2 sides: Mac n cheese and baked beans with corn bread. Was it bad, no, but it’s not something I enjoyed for $19. 2/5 overall, but let me better explain. Brisket: 1/5 The brisket not only lacked seasoning/flavor, but was try and was pretty fatty. I’d suspect that they cook it hot and fast, rather than low and slow. With the amount of fat on it, I would have also suspected it to be more moist, but it was not. It didn’t pull apart nice and took some effort to chew. I like flavorful brisket that’s adequately trimmed to keep some fat on to help with the cooking process. This was over cooked and dry and not on my list to order again. Pulled pork: 4/5 it was moist, not over shredded and had a nice ratio of bbq sauce to meat. I still had to sift through bites to pull out fat. Wasn’t the best I’ve had, but I would eat it again. Baked beans: 4/5 I was pleasantly shocked how much I liked the beans. I don’t often get baked beans because they are drenched in too much sugar. This was not the case, these were a nice side that didn’t make me feel like I was eating dessert and the overall flavor was good. There was a mix of maybe 3 different beans, bacon, and maybe sausage or hot dog? Not sure but it was good side dish. Mac and cheese: 1/5 there’s no shame in people eating boxed Mac n cheese but we only ever make homemade Mac and cheese and it’s better than anything I’d ever get out to eat so I know I shouldn’t bother getting it when I order out. The noodle was undercooked, had a chew to it, and had processed cheese all in it and topped on it. Tasted just like the Kraft Mac n cheese you’d buy in the box. It’s not for me and this spot could benefit from making there own with a homemade cheese sauce, it makes the world of difference. Corn bread: 3/5 it was okay. Not super moist but not dry. Also not overly sweet, but I didn’t love it.
I will always give a restaurant a second chance and will order again and update my review if I feel like it should be revised. This place has potential, and is one I’d still recommend. I’d love to see their smoked meats level up a bit and I can only imagine how their business would enhance...
Read moreVery Dissappointing - we used to order Gio's food weekly. The large stromboli is half the size, and the past two times we got them it was raw inside. We hadn't ordered in a while because of the last inedible one. Therefore, I asked as I ordered to please cook it thoroughly since the last one we ordered was doughy. For this reason I ordered a salad as a backup and my salad was dumped from a bag (not fresh). The chicken was good.
Also, I was informed they no longer serve chicken breast for their 1/4 chicken only thighs (yuck).
I am very sad since this was one of our favorite places to each
The house dressing and the BBQ is still the best though. Hopefully the new owners won't change that. 2 years later
Once again disappointing! I called for a quick pick up and was told by the girl who answered the phone that they no longer had a lg stromboli, that it was one size 8" and cost $9.00 and would feed one person. I didn't order.
When I got home I grabbed my menu that I had picked up 3 days prior when I was picking up my salad dressing (still the best). Sure enough on the menu was a small stomboli $6.00 and the lg $16.00 (price gouging at its best) this is about a 30% price increase. Therefore, I called and this time a male answered the phone, I asked about the lg stomboli and told him I was told 25 minutes earlier there wasn't a lg stromboli. He informed me he had served one the day before. He also told me they were about the size of the box and would feed 6-7 people. I hate being decieved.
Well my husband came home with it and they were both in one box (with both may be enough to feed 6-7 people if we cut it small).
If you look at the owners response to me 2 years ago, you will see that they state the size has not changed. We have ordered 50-75 stombolis from the old owners. I am not blind, they are half the size and around a 30% price increase. Also to the reply, I was told they do not serve breasts for their bbq chicken meals, I asked what they used for their chicken salad and was informed chicken breasts (so if this is not true, they need to inform...
Read moreFood was good and im just going to list off one liner reviews for all the food we had with the two platters: The Big Daddy sampler and The Souther Fried Catfish. Here we go: The ribs where our favorite, absolutely delicious with the right amount of tenderness, smokiness and beautiful smoke ring, tangy and a glossy saucy bark. The chicken was really dry and lots of salt. “Careful chil’ren that’s aaalot a’ Sodium” My wife said “ehhh.” Pulled pork is decent, its not wet, more on the dry side. But it wasn’t.. moist.. Wash it down with their AWARD WINNING SAUCE ….blue ribbon.. from Pittsburgh…. In 1987. But they assure you it is AWARD WINNING. EVERYWHERE. It was a good chuckle about the sauce advertisement, but they want you to know it IS AWARD WINNING. Even if it was only ONE award ever. The brisket was okay, its dry, but bendy and flippity and had a nice smoke ring. Brisket is brisket, the same as a hickory bark soaked in cider vinegar. The catfish was crispy, delicious, small little piece (6oz), and the batter was tasty and crunchy. I recommend it. The tartar sauce had a good amount of pickles, unlike other places were it might as well be mayo from the jar. Garlic bread, crunchy, garlicky, and delicious. Cornbread is phenomenal melts in your mouth with its artery clogging goodness butter. Mac n cheese was consumable, better than most places, not powdery tasting and had two good cheesy flavours. Mixed veggies are not worth mentioning according to my wife. Haluski make no sense on the menu but equally area comfort food from the Polacks. French fries were one step above the chicken, they tasted like a mashed backed potato into a french fry and then skin was then glued on. Don’t get me wrong fries are okay, but not crispy. And let me just say WHY NO SWEET POTATO FRIES?????
Staff is very friendly, nice people, and easy to talk to.
Pricing is very fair for the amount of...
