The architecture of the building is absolutely gorgeous, and the dining area offers a great view of the surrounding hills and other historic buildings. Overall, I'd say the prices were just about average, with a little extra for the views and the ambience, which should be expected in an area with some tourism. I chose not to order food, but did order a shake. My colleague did order a hot dog with fries.
The milkshake was billed as having been "voted the best in West Virginia." I'm calling election fraud on that claim. I ordered a peanut butter cup shake with malt, but could not detect much malt flavor. I don't know whether they were using a powder or liquid malt extract; but, when asked, the server did say they used 3 scoops. Buy yourself some malted milk balls, or a jar of Carnation, but skip this addition here. The shake I received was very runny, but topped with a mound of decent whipped cream and a cherry. Bottom line, there are many cool little places that serve homemade shakes in WV, most charge significantly less for a far better product. You'd be better off with a Blizzard from DQ.
My colleague said her hot dog was good, and that both the chili and slaw toppings were very flavorful. I tried some of her fries. The fries had a good color, and were cooked all the way through, but the flesh was still very firm; this usually stems from not blanching hand-cut fries before the final frying process.
However, the reason I give only two stars, instead of three, is because I had to pay twice for the same shake. The server did not bring a bill, so we had to go to the register. My colleague paid first, and they charged her for my shake; so, when I stepped to the register, our server told me that she had already charged my co-worker. I needed to break a bill, so that I would be able to leave a tip, so I asked for change...what a mistake!
The server agreed to change my larger bill, but then proceeded to give me change from the full price of a shake. I called to her attention that she had just charged my friend for that shake, but she didn't seem to get it. I ended having to give my colleague the change I did receive, but still have to pay her back for the rest of it. So, I ended up paying $13.50 for a mediocre milkshake in a cool looking little diner with a great view. I would not go back again, but there's some other little paces in Bramwell to try on my next trip...
Read moreWe had been in to get trail passes a couple days ago and the ice cream looked great, so we returned today to give it a try. I also checked out the reviews ahead of time and at 4.7 was really looking forward to a banana split after a long day of riding. We first approached the counter where there were 4 employees standing behind, and awkwardly waited a couple minutes while none of them asked if they could help or even made eye contact. At that point we suspected we were not supposed to wait at the counter and took a seat expecting a server to come ask us what we would like. One lady eventually came and dropped off two menus and after another 10 minutes of sitting there, no one returned and we watched another flustered guest walk out without paying his bill because he was tired of waiting. My husband said he saw some of the staff on their cell phones behind the counter. It seemed maybe 2 of the staff were in training. Two more tables were filled up after we arrived, and they were served waters but no other returned visits to their tables either in the time we were there. After about 15 minutes, my husband suggested we leave or we’d be there 45 minutes for ice cream. I was very disappointed to have to leave, but I knew he wasn’t wrong in that assumption. I hope the owners are aware of the staff situation and can address it. They lost at least two customers tonight, us and the guy who eventually got tired of waiting and left without paying. Shame because the...
Read moreI was visiting Bramwell from New York. I stopped in this resturant. The waitress we had was less that Pleasent. I ordered a burger. Not once did she ask me how I would like it cooked. It came with a side of shoestring fries. The fries were not only overcooked they were in small disintegrated pieces I could not eat without at least a fork which was not provided to me until I asked for it. I also ordered a hot dog which arrived at the table first and was cold. My guest ordered a turkey club with a side of Mac And cheese. The turkey club came but not the Mac and cheese. When the Mac and cheese finally came it was all Mac no cheese. From the time we sat down to the time I got my meal it took 40 minutes. My guest wanted to get up and leave but that’s not my style. I did tip the waitress handsomely but she did not deserve it. She felt we were somehow a bother to her. The food was average. I have never been treated so shamefully. It appears if you live in Bramville and are known to this resturant in this beautiful town you are treated well. But if you are a tourist avoid this place because they don’t want visitors...
