Me & my family decided to eat here today (Christmas). One of my family members called a few days in advance to ask if we would need a reservation. Whoever answered the phone asked her how many in our party & she told them there would be six of us. They said we would need a reservation & they booked it for us at 2. So we show up today a little early (about 1:45) just to have time to check in & wait. When we told them our party name, we were told they don’t have a reservation under our name & that there’s an 8 person minimum to reservations & that we would have to wait 45 minutes. Naturally, we were confused so we stated again that we called in advance for a reservation. They basically told us there was nothing they can do, & the manager stated that she was there the day we called & for some reason implied that because she wasn’t the one that answered our call, that it likely didn’t happen. Which made no sense when she later said “we have a lot of people that answer the phones,” after also implying she’s the only one that normally answers the phone (at least that’s how she worded it) because regardless, our call was made & the reservation was confirmed by at least one person in the restaurant (my family member even spoke to two employees & they both agreed we’d need the reservation). It went as far as the manager asking for proof on my family members’ phone because she wanted to see if we called the wrong number. It rubbed me the wrong way at that point, because it felt like they were trying to pin their mistake on us so they didn’t have to take responsibility. The general manager got called up & she had more attitude than anyone we talked to before her. She kept stating the “8 person policy” & we understood that, but we weren’t told that over the phone & also why would two different employees tell us we can book a reservation for six if that was the case. Anyways, the general manager flipped through the reservation book (which no one did before that point) & another one of my family members said he was sure he saw our reservation written down with the number six & 2pm next to it. Instead of admitting their mistake, general manager still insisted they didn’t have it written down but she told us after flipping through the book she said “we’ll get you in by two anyways.” If the reservation was written down why not admit that, instead of still trying to make this our fault? Then when we were seated (I will state & give them credit because they did what they said & we got in by 2pm), but the general manager said again “sorry for the confusion but our policy is 8 people,” why restate that? We were all understanding of their policy but again, we were not told that before driving 45 minutes under the impression we had the reservation. Normally I don’t complain & I can be understanding because I’ve worked in customer service for 8+ years. But, it bothered me that the staff was trying to blame us for their confusion & mistakes. Not to mention we ate our entire meal while receiving weird looks from a lot of the staff. The way the situation was handled was what upset me & the rest of my family. Other than that, food was okay. The catfish was so-so it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. The breading on it was too much for me. The steak & the sides were good & overall the rest of my family enjoyed their food so there was at least that. The situation definitely could have been handled better instead of directing blame for something we had no idea of & it felt a little immature for their policy to be repeated when we understood, but they should have understood better that regardless, we communicated the number of people we had & we even asked them if we needed the reservation. They recommended the reservation for our party in the first place. We like their food but this interaction was definitely enough for me to not want to come back. That being said, I am very grateful for everyone that worked on Christmas. I know holidays our stressful & being there to provide everyone food & service is a wonderful thing. Thank...
Read moreI’ve been to Flat Creek 3 times. The first experience I had was at the Republic location. It was good experience , the food was good, the service was good and my wife and I really enjoyed it. The next visit was again to the Republic location, this time things went very poorly. In the middle of our dining experience another patron two tables over started choking, I immediately got up and went to the Lady and performed the Heimlich maneuver. As I am tending to the lady in distress, there was an employee who came over and decided to play cheerleader and start yelling at me telling me what to do. This was very uncomfortable for the patron and myself in an already highly stressful situation. The maneuver was successful and the I had her sit down. I then returned to my seat but was unable to finish my meal due to the situation. I did not receive a thank you for saving the life of a fellow patron, not that I needed it but normally it’s customary for a manager to come visit the parties involved. We left for a bit and went for a walk so I could calm my nerves and while on the walk I had my wife check to see if I if I had received my veterans discount, which I had not. I was wearing a veteran shirt which said “Veteran Proud to Have Served” so I drove back to the restaurant and asked for a manager. He apparently was having a bad day because he acted like I was disturbing him. I asked him about the discount and he said “it was only fifty cents. That was a lie it would have been $2.75 just for my portion. I asked him if he was aware of the lady who choked in his dining area and he said he was not aware of the incident over an hour later. He said that there was supposed to be an incident report filled out and dismissed himself and walked away. Again Not professional! Well my wife said she liked the food there so I took her to the Cape Fair location the food was as good as always but the staff were more interested in talking to each other than refilling drinks and bringing food to the patrons. This time we ordered the all you can eat chicken and catfish. They ran out of chicken and informed us that it would be 15 minutes for the next chicken to be served. We also found out at that time that there were two parties in the back one with about 20 and the other was 15. They took priority for the food. That’s a nice little nugget that should’ve been revealed when we first arrived. This for me was strike three. I have no plans to visit any other location...
Read moreBolivar location not Cape Fair!! STEAK had a bad taste - possibly the butter they put on at the end to sear steak but steak had a twang taste! We went to the Bolivar Flat Creek for early Mother’s Day on 5/13 Saturday afternoon (boyfriend, his mother, and myself) boyfriend ordered a 14 oz ribeye ($28.99), mother chicken house salad, Rueben for myself. I had taken a bite of his steak and immediately spit it out, I have never spit out food at a table and never in a restaurant. I told him it tasted funny but he said he didn’t want to complain and ruin dinner for me or his mom. He didn’t even eat 1/4 of it. It turns out, that all of us had some kind of bad taste on our food and possibly was a bad taste from the grill? Not sure! We were all in the bathroom Saturday night and through the morning. I called this morning as I didn’t want to call when we got home Saturday evening as I knew they would be really busy and Sunday being Mother’s Day knew that was probably even busier. Call this morning talk to Steve I believe told him everything and he said he was sorry for not enjoying the steak, assured me that all steaks were checked, and the butter could not have been bad. and that was it. I did explain to him that the steak at $30 basically was a waste of money as he took 3/4 of at home and it was thrown out. It is really a shame that they did not step up with the situation. So much for trying to be nice and not make a scene at that time or calling when they are extremely busy. But their loss probably won’t miss us as I know you’re really busy all the time . But if the food taste bad, speak up right then because calling did not do a thing. By the way, Keegan, our waiter was very nice and did try to be helpful. I...
