Ah, Doc and Bubba's, a beacon of disillusionment in the bustling world of dining mediocrity. We, a party of five, arrived at the hallowed hour of 7 p.m., eager to bask in the culinary delights that had allegedly earned this establishment its reputation. Alas, we were met with an experience as lukewarm as the steak they served me.
First, the seating debacle. Early, yet unseated, we watched with awe as groups who clearly had no reservations waltzed past us to claim their spots. “The table needs to be cleaned,” they said. A herculean task, it seems, requiring more time than it takes to marinate disappointment into a perfect medium-rare failure. By the time we were finally led to our seats, we found ourselves in what I can only describe as the restaurant’s unglorified hallway, a liminal space between two dining areas. Charming, really.
The drinks? Ah, the drinks. A true lesson in consistency—consistently inconsistent, that is. One drink great, the next watered down, like a diluted memory of the joy I once felt for mixology. The pièce de résistance? When my friend ordered his second double shot, it was identical to the first, and it was tragically underwhelming. So, I decided to play detective. A single shot for me, a double for my brains, er, partner. When the drinks arrived, we uncovered the truth: doubles that tasted suspiciously like singles. I ordered two shots with a Coke just to prove a point. Mixing them myself, I finally got a drink worth its price tag—but not without a side of sass from our server, whose attitude was as bitter as the fraud we were exposing.
The food? Mixed reviews there, too. While my companions enjoyed their meals, my steak came out tepid, and my sweet potato fries arrived as if they had just auditioned for a role in Frozen. The kitchen’s attention to detail was as lacking as their server’s customer service skills.
Speaking of the server, when asked about our experience, I candidly expressed my concerns. I was met with indifference and no adjustments to the bill. Honesty, it seems, costs extra here. A $100 drinking tab for two with no buzz to show for it? Impressive, really—a masterclass in daylight robbery.
In conclusion, Doc and Bubba's delivers an unparalleled experience if your goal is to lower your standards and lighten your wallet. Never again.
A Little Poem for Doc and Bubba's
Oh, Doc and Bubba’s, what a charade, A crowded façade, where hopes were betrayed. We waited, we wondered, while others were seated, The illusion of service was thoroughly defeated.
Drinks so watered, they drowned my delight, Steaks so cool, they chilled my appetite. Sweet potato fries with frost on their skin, A culinary battle we couldn’t win.
Oh, Doc and Bubba’s, your name I’ll not hail, For you’ve mastered the art of an epic fail. From hallway seats to fraudulent pours, You’ve left us longing for dining’s open doors.
Farewell, dear Doc, and Bubba too, Your mediocrity? Never again...
Read moreMy family, friends, and I went to Doc and Bubba's for my birthday. The server asked if we were celebrating. My friend said, yes! It's her birthday! Then asked for her and her husbands check to be separate. Our server brought water for everyone right away.
As the night went on, unfortunately the service worsened. It seems they definitely need to hire more servers to lessen the stress on their employees. Our food took over 75 minutes to finally come out. Everyones food came out except my sister's. My mom's pizza was cold and barely had any toppings on it at all! We all waited for her to get her food for another 10 minutes while slowly picking at our food because we were so hungry. Hers finally came out then. Everyone said their food was pretty good. My mom's pizza was really delicious, despite it being cold. I got the Risotto. It was nice and creamy, but unfortunately really lacked flavor. I had to add salt which is something I've literally done a handful of times in my life. The fries were definitely the most phenomenal thing in the table. My sister's fiance said the pierogi's were ok. My dad loved his food. Our server had no time to check and see if we were good until we were almost done. Once finished, we waited a bit for the dishes to be cleared, which wasn't a big deal. He brought boxes for anyone that needed one. Then he asked about dessert. I decided to get the lemon bar, and my friends got the Mousse. Presentation was nice. The lemon bar was a bit gummy and had chunks of what I would describe as gelatin in it. My friend's mousse was good. A table over, a sparkler came out on a dessert, ice cream maybe?, and people were wishing that person a happy birthday. I don't know if that is standard or not, bought when we told our server about my birthday, he mentioned something about singing, or sparkles or something. I couldn't fully hear him since I was at the other end of the table. But I was wishing for something to happen for me too then. But no. When our bill came, everyone was on one check. My friend went to the server and bar area, and asked to pay for her and her husband separately. It seemed like it was very difficult and they only took her meal off the bill. So her husbands was still on ours (which truly was fine, but my friend wanted to pay for the two of them), which we ended up paying for. We also had tip included. We were 7 at first, then should have been 5 and 2. Is tip always included? We would have left around what was there anyways, but sometimes it's nice not to have to pay a tip you are forced to pay but what you want to pay.
So overall, the food was pretty decent. Service could have been better. Food needed to come out much sooner. The atmosphere was super cute. I hadn't been here since it was an Italian restaurant years prior. I even attended a wedding there years ago! I do like what they did and the ambience was...
Read moreOn Sunday 6/9, we had a reservation for 12 at 5pm. During our visit we had a number of minor issues, but one very serious problem that I would like to speak with someone about.
We understand that serving a large party can be difficult so some minor issues can happen. My father and mother are both in the restaurant business and serving for 40+ years and owned a restaurant themselves, so we are pretty understanding.
The first issue was that I asked for a highchair for the two children from the hostess. We waited a few minutes and watched her sit another party as my husband was holding my son with nowhere to put him. I went up to the front and asked another young man for the highchairs and he was able to bring some over. Next, two people in our party wanted to order the French Dip and were told they ran out by 5pm on Sunday, disappointing, but it happens so we choose another entree. Another person ordered the crunch wrap and was told they had to pick another sauce because they were out of the sauce that comes on the wrap. Ok, no big deal. My daughter asked for the children's sliders and we were told they were out of slider buns and so she ordered a plain cheeseburger with American cheese, which we were charged full price for instead of the children's menu price. The plain cheeseburger came out with cheddar cheese. They took the burger back to remake with American cheese and it came back with lettuce, tomato, and onion. I told her just to pull it off and eat the burger.
The biggest issue was the issue with our appetizer that we ordered which was artichoke dip. When it came to the table, I scooped some out to each of my children before serving myself. After my kids had already eaten some, I took a bite and realized, this was crab dip. I am allergic to shellfish. The bite I had was very small before I realized it and thankfully, I was ok. However, my 9 year old daughter had already eaten 3 bites of it. I told the server and he took it away and brought the correct appetizer. After we got home she developed hives and a rash all over her face and body. I had to medicate her and check on her every 2 hours to make sure she did not have anaphylactic shock. The next morning I had to take her to the Dr. because the rash had gotten worse. This could have been deadly to someone with a worse shellfish allergy. Thank God, my daughter was ok.
We paid $550.00 for dinner with an auto gratuity of 20%.
We have been here a few times and have not had these issues. I am not sure what was going on this day, but this is not acceptable. Today the restaurant is closed but I will be calling first thing tomorrow to speak with a manager or the owner regarding...
