I hate writing poor reviews. When our party of four arrived at 6:10, we ordered drinks, an appetizer, and took a look at the menu. Those drinks took almost 10 minutes to show up. 20 minutes later our waitress came back to finally take our order...after I flagged her down. 30 minutes later our food finally showed up and we were able to ask for our first round of refills. We ordered two sushi rolls, some more sushi (I'm not a sushi fan and wasn't paying attention to what my party ordered), and some chicken fried rice. I fail to see what about that could possibly take half an hour. Other Japanese restaurants can have your food to you in ten minutes tops. Heck, even when you go to a hibachi restaurant and watch the show it doesn't take half an hour and they're intentionally dragging out the experience.
Honestly, I think it came down to our waitress being in a poor mood and/or just not caring. The food itself was great and the only complaint I heard was that the descriptions of the various rolls were nowhere near complete. My fiancee doesn't like roe, for instance, and intentionally avoided ordering any of the rolls with roe in the description. Well her roll arrived with roe covering it. We double checked the menu and it wasn't in the description.
I don't remember our waitress's name nor would I put it if I did. That only invites problems and I've been in service before so I understand that it can be tough working a rush. But when your restaurant isn't very busy and you have what appears to be three servers serving ten tables max, I shouldn't have to go searching for my her to get drink refills or order our food after sitting for twenty minutes. Thank goodness our event after was in the same shopping center because they don't do cancellations or late refunds. We contemplated dashing purely because we didn't know if we could get our checks (requested at 7:10) in enough time.
If you aren't in a rush, this place is probably pretty great but as a first experience, this put a sour taste in our mouths and we won't be returning...
Read moreMy wive and I eat here often. The salad is always our starter and we get the dressing on the side, which is too delicious to be good for you, but a little goes a long way. Then we get the pan seared pork gyoza. They offer a sheimp version too, which is good too, but we like the pork ones better. Sometimes I'll get the teriyaki, if I'm not feeling sushi that night, which has a nice smoky, savory sweet flavor. The basic rolls are pretty much on par with what you'd expect from a sushi bar, but the more creative rolls are what we usually get. Mardi Gras is a good one, paired with Mango Paradise, are our most frequent favorites. The staff is always very welcoming and attentative. They keep up with cleaning well too, which means a lot for a restaurant that's been there for a while, it shows that the owner and managers really care about their guests and business. All in all, this a good date night spot for us, but also a good place to bring the kids along for a special...
Read moreTo me this was just average sushi. I like raw rolls and so I got 2 different ones. The Gyoza, Salad, and Miso were all delightful. The sushi wasn't awful just not good enough for me to ever have again. I don't enjoy fake crab meat at all...a lot of the rolls contain that, even the raws ones. I'm sure you could ask for it to be removed or subbed. I will say this they get 3 stars from me for the items that were good and their friendliness. They seemed happy to greet each customer that came in. Our server was friendly until she disappeared and I waited 15ish minutes before just walking to the front to pay so I could leave. I would go back for the salad...it was fresh and vibrant AND the dressing...
