Greenhouse Café & Tavern is absolutely gorgeous, the kind of place that makes you want to sip something fancy and pretend you’re in a garden party scene from a feel-good movie. We picked the beautiful outdoor seating and were ready to relax, enjoy the view, and catch up.
Unfortunately, our server Wendy had a stopwatch in her soul. We had been seated for maybe ten minutes before she was already nudging us to order apps and entrees. She circled back three separate times like we were in a speed dining competition. I kindly let her know we weren’t in a rush and were looking forward to enjoying the setting. Her response? And I quote, “Look, I know it doesn’t look busy now, but there are people that need to sit here after you.”
Ma’am, it was 4:15. The maitre d’ had just told us no one was scheduled to sit at our table until 6:45. We weren’t exactly holding up the dinner rush.
To top it off, Wendy split our checks incorrectly, and when I called her over politely, she looked me right in the eye and just walked away. That was a new one. Thankfully, another kind server stepped in and helped us out.
Now the food was still tasty, but noticeably different from when we ate there the Friday before. The salad was completely different, and the scallop and shrimp risotto was more like shrimp risotto with a surprise cameo of scallop confetti. It tasted good, just not what I expected.
We spent about $200 for an early dinner for two of us, so I would’ve loved to enjoy it without being rushed out like someone else’s reservation was more important. We were a party of five, not exactly nursing a single side salad. The place clearly makes great money, and for good reason, it is stunning. But if you’re going to create such a beautiful atmosphere, let people enjoy it without feeling like they’re being ushered out of a museum exhibit.
Great vibe. Beautiful spot. Just hoping next time the service matches...
Read moreThis review is not for the restaurant and cafe’, but for the Greenhouse Food Truck. Not sure if it’s from being understaffed or being undertrained but today was beyond unacceptable.
The food truck was the sole food source at the Norbrook Farm Brewery today. The place just opened (at noon) so we figured the food truck must have as well. We gave them a half an hour or so before heading over to order. Although the prices were a little high for smaller sized portions we figured we’d help pay it forward and support the local business.
After ordering we were told 15 to 20 minutes. (Which we felt was reasonable.) we gave them a half hour then checked back. Upon waiting 5-10 minutes more we inquired the status and were told a little longer. (about 10 more minutes.)
We gave it 15 more. After heading back a second time we stood waiting to check in for another 15 to 20 minutes before we could get any attention from the woman communicating inside. It was finally our turn at bat only to find out they gave our order away to someone else!!!!!
So now, after being completely famished, and after our second, going on third round of drinks we were SOL. At this point the wait was up to 35/40 minutes.
The woman communicating from inside stated there were several people w/ the same first name. We stated that we gave a last name for that reason upon ordering. She further stated if we can wait another 15 or so minutes they’d jump on our ticket next.
At no time was there an offer to make it right or reimburse us for any part of it. She just stated we could wait or get refunded.
We are pretty calm people by nature but their lack of sympathy and help in making things right was unfair and extremely unprofessional. My suggestion, if you go to a winery or brewery, and you see the Green House Food truck is there you might want to bring your own...
Read moreI almost don't want to write a good review, with 5 stars, it will encourage more people to go try my new favorite in the Burlington area. This is one of those place that I drove bye frequently & it didnt look like much from the road..WRONG! Dress very casual, what you would wear to Applebee's or the movies, clean & neat. When you pull in to the all dirt lot there is a Koi pond and fountain with a pair of picnic tables. Just off the parking lot is a little place you can buy ice cream..& that is some REALLY good ice cream! Okay...I don't see the tavern?? The dirt lot go's up a hill behind the ice cream shop..and there it is, a lower and upper parking lot (all dirt lot ladies, be mindful of your shoe choice) with a really nice open air dining area, that really looks like a greenhouse! There is also indoor seating, but people said it was crowded & we wanted to eat outside, due to the low Temps. Our waitress was very pleasant. My wife had the Cedar plank salmon, I had clam straps, my oldest son & I had the clam strip platter, my youngest son had the pulled pork Taco & my daughter had the vegetable burger and a wedge salad. My wife loves Salmon & she said this was excellent, it looked it. The Clam strips were very good, fresh and tasty, French fries..not bad. My youngest son said the Tacp was very good and he would definitely order it next time we visit. My daughter said "I like it, it's really good. Now the one con Our entrée orders came to the table before our appetizers 😯. That put a damper on things, but our waitress made a sincere apology & removed them from our bill. I honestly believe this was a simple oversight on a very busy night. I recomend the Greenhouse Café for great, casual dining with a fun atmosphere with really good food & I am anxious to...
