Rachel ROCKS!! Our first visit and looking for decent seafood within 25 miles of our home. I viewed the menu (pricey) and read several reviews and decided to give it a go. We entered about 415 pm on this Friday, October 8th, without a reservation but the hostess directed us to a small 2 top in back corner. Rachel took our order, presented our $40 Outer Banks Fried Platters with 5 scallop pieces, 3 large shrimp, 2 huge oysters and the best crab cake I've eaten in a restaurant in a long time! Loaded baked potato, $2 upcharg, fresh buttered broccoli rounded out the plate. My date ordered the HOUSEMADE PASTA which was an oval dish of fusilli topped with red sauce. Not sure what HOUSEMADE means but the upcharge of $5 definitely WAS NOT worth the pasta presented because BOX Pasta was more like it. (Weis Markets, local grocer, has best made crab cakes in store!) A golf basket of crusty rolls, whipped butter and fresh water and lemon. Now the adjacent diners had Michael as their waiter and their exchange of information was more detailed. Samples of seasonal beer sounded great andso, I asked Rachael if there was a FLIGHT available (no) or if I could sample a couple, scarecrow or the cappuccino ale? Or did they offer Lancaster Baked Pumpkin Ale. She said she would ask and the pint arrived, I tasted it and it was not the LBPA. it had hints of vanilla and spices like the other waiter, Michael, explained to other diners. I walked to bar, inquired with the bartender and he noted it was the NOT the LBPA but the Scarecrow ale. We were not charged for the pint but bartender was familiar with LBPA and MIXED a few beers together to create the taste in another glass. I appreciated that gesture but didn't like the mixture. All servers work together and so, Michael asked if I wanted my food wrapped to go, I said YES and jokingly counted FIVE pieces. A few minutes later the box was presented to me, I opened it and one scallop was missing. I asked Rachel to ask the chef if he had an extra scallop to replace the LOST one and she obliged cheerfully. (I normally prefer to box my food.) We left room for dessert and chose the banana cheesecake “Fried Burrito” with a whipped cream dipping display that was oh, so, yummy. The Specialty Coffee capped the meal off nicely. My closing words don’t include the interior or furnishings. I’ve eaten in restaurants that were holes in the wall and yet served the BEST cuisine. I’ve also dined at lavish, over the top designer restaurants that served less than acceptable food. We enjoyed the food, kudos to the chef, that gracious bartender, the server, Michael for stepping in to explain beer options and the additional waitstaff who assisted in our...
Read moreAbsolute worst place I have ever eaten. While some of the food is okay at best, it's astonishingly disappointing. For the most part, the staff is nice. I love the server Campbell, and I think his name was James, Dylan was cool too. But for the most part, it felt off-putting. I saw the manager walking around seemingly drunk, kinda gave me the creeps.
The food is disappointing. One time I got the Surf and Turf, the lobster tail was rubbery and had an unpleasant flavor and the "medium rare" filet was overcooked and chewy, not to mention way overpriced. Another time I got the crab cakes and honestly while they did taste good, they were crunchy like the shells were still inside them. It was hard to enjoy the taste when I was too busy struggling to chew.
I've heard awful stories from my friends about their kids working at Becks. How these teenagers are expected to work at ridiculous times and are often forced to skip their family events to work. Completely unprofessional. My friend's son was a dishwasher and he worked to exhaustion during the school year. He got to work early, and left near midnight and was barely compensated for it, and he still had piles of homework to complete. Another friend told me about their kid was being forced to skip THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY VACATION just to work for this place. They were 15 at the time I'm pretty sure. I haven't heard a positive thing about the place from anyone who works there. Their work conditions are so bad I've heard that no one wants to get a job there, so they are understaffed and forced to put even more pressure on the young teens who work there.
If I could leave a worse review I would. The food is very disappointing for the absurd price that is charged. The staff, excluding those previously mentioned, are stiff and unnerving, and in the case of the manager make me never want to come back. Not to mention what I've frequently been hearing about those who previously found employment at Becks. Unprofessional to say...
Read moreDO NOT EVER BUY GIFT CARDS FROM THIS PLACE!!! I'm not saying I was scammed but I paid $100 for gift cards and never received them. My parents live in PA and I wanted to get them a nice Christmas present so I ordered gift cards over the phone. I spoke to Hannah on 12/10 and she took my credit card information and address and said they would be mailed out promptly. My biggest mistake was not getting some sort of receipt since this transaction was done over the phone (I live in Texas). The next day, I called to double check that my gift cards were in fact mailed out so that I could include them in a Christmas package for my parents. Hannah said she wasn't sure and that she would have someone call me. I did receive a call later that day but no voicemail. I then followed up on 12/12 and spoke to someone named Lauren. I'm not sure if Lauren is a manager there but when I asked for a manager she said she could help me and said that she was the one who mails gift cards out. I asked her for a copy of my receipt which she was unable to find. I also asked her if my gift cards were mailed to which she also seemed frazzled and couldn't fully confirm. Through various conversations throughout the next few days it became apparent that Lauren could not verify that the gift cards were mailed. I tried my best to be patient but was increasingly frustrated with the situation. It's now December 22nd, just a few days before Christmas and still no gift cards. Lauren has now chosen to say that it is probably the post offices fault and that the cards were lost in the mail. My theory is that something else was lost in translation at the restaurant but she refuses to admit that. Although she did apologize for the situation she has done nothing to really rectify it, such as offering to mail out new cards to either myself or my parents. When my husband finally contacted our bank to dispute the charges Lauren got very angry with me and hung up the phone. Happy...
