My partner and I have been coming to the Butternut Cafe since May 2023, merely out of the convenience of location from our home and because his supervisors recommended it. However, we are rarely greeted, others are served before us even after waiting 15+ minutes and the waitresses look right at us. We’re never told the specials or asked how we are. We’ve seen the waitresses make small talk with other tables and it’s never done with us. So we patiently wait while playing cribbage. I’ve ordered the same thing each time, the skillet with ham, no mushrooms and no toast with over easy eggs and a side of bacon. I’ve had toast brought to me numerous times and my partner noticed times where the waitress didn’t write anything when I said “no toast”. I’ve been confronted with rude statements such as, “can’t you just eat it if I take the toast away?” No, no I can’t because I am allergic to bread, I have celiac disease. Not sure why making a new plate of food is such a hassle when it was the waitresses mistake. The last time we went we met one nice waitress that stepped in and took care of us. I shared my concerns with her at the till and gave her a large tip because the two main waitresses always ignore us or are rude. She said she works Sundays and would take care of us again. We attempted to go today again to see if the kind waitress was working and she was not. We waited 15 minutes at the bar and no one talked to us. A white couple came in ten minutes after us and received drinks immediately. I speculate that this is racial discrimination as I am often the only person of color in the restaurant (my partner is Caucasian). We have not come to any other conclusions to explain the lack of service and common courtesy. I really hope that this review is taken seriously and handled appropriately as the waitresses know who we are, maybe not my name as they’ve never taken the time to ask, however, by how I’ve described us each time...

Read moreThis is a cute little place in Downtown Butternut. It's a small room and only a few, very nice employees. Ordered the waffles, which were crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. Chocolate chips were good. Pancake was large tall and fluffy, though a little dark. Delicious frozen strawberries on top. Bacon good and crispy. Got some hash browns loaded up, golden and still soft. Exactly how i like them. They aren't crispy for you crispy hash brown lovers so keep that in mind, but I'm sure you can request it more well done. Really care about the customers. Cook separated a bunch of eggs for a family who wanted just egg whites. So nice. I think the prices are fair just glancing at the menu. Good...
