Dined-in on Wednesday evening (Dec 23rd) with some friends from Caledonia. I recall eating there once before and it wasn't memorable one way or the other. However, this time around the food was actually terrible....and trust me, I'm not saying that lightly.
Within our party of four, we ordered two dishes of spaghetti and two dishes of eggplant parmesan. The main thing that killed our meals was the marinara sauce. Not sure how it could taste as bad as it did but it was really bad. We tried to move the sauce away to get at the plain noodles but that was a pretty futile activity. Further, the eggplant parmesan pieces were a saturated greasy mess. Lastly, my wife's spaghetti had Italian sausage. The link was largely cold...barely cooked.
This awful meal started out with French onion soup that was so salty that it was completely inedible and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The waitress actually said that they could water down the broth...REALLY? Maybe the ingredients should be added in the correct amounts in the first place rather than trying to dilute them down after the fact. Instead, we asked that she bring the other available soup...something like a creamy potato with bacon. It was marginal at best and somehow tasted like potato salad rather than soup.
Even though we were all really hungry when coming to the restaurant, not a single one of the four of us could make any dent in our main dish. We would have walked away hungry had it not been for the salad and garlic bread.
The waitress was accommodating and pleasant but this meal was a disaster especially considering that we spent in excess of $55. When the waitress returned at the end of the meal and found our plates full, she asked if there was some problem. I replied that the sauce tasted bad and asked that she taste it in the kitchen. She returned to state that it tasted fine to her. I guess our complaints fell on deaf ears as she brought boxes for all of us anyway. My three dining partners didn't want to make a scene and they brought their uneaten meals home. I left mine on the plate as a statement to the kitchen knowing that it would go straight to the garbage if I had...
Read moreIt took probably twenty minutes on the phone to get the order correctly placed and another hour and a half to get it delivered. They were very nice on the phone, even when I called back to complain about the two meals we spent $70 on (that's including tip). The meals were so disappointing I felt I had to let them know. I got the $40 surf and turf which was a beautifully cooked filet (but it had no seasonings on it) and a cooked to death lobster tail. So rubbery and dry it was apparent that it was not simply overcooking on the ride over but massacred by whomever cooked it. For something I wait a year for, it was inedible and so disappointing. I kid you not, the dog would not even eat it. The lid for the cup of butter was completely melted and laying in the bowl of butter and lobster. Would you like melted plastic with your $20 lobster tail? Now the eggplant. The meal was eggplant parmesiana and lasagna. What came was a big unrecognizable bowl of sloppy saucy noodle cheese mess. We finally found the delicate eggplant at the bottom of the big sloppy mess. Did not taste bad but come on! They separated the steak and lobster into two containers but then bury the eggplant under a ginormous serving of lasagna. And they forgot our italian bread. The woman on the phone was very nice and kindly listened to me vent about how dissatisfied we were. She then agreed to pass it along and thanked me for the feedback and apologized. I still felt the need to write this review as this sadly pretty much killed my desire to ever order from this restaurant, that used to...
Read moreI have been going to this DeRango's for years now, between eat in and carry out. Never had an issue and always amazing food. I took my sister here tonight and I was greatly disappointed. My strawberry shake I ordered NO whip cream and it came with it, no big my sister ate it off the top for me. Then an hour later we finally got our food. And we were seated 2nd after opening the doors and ordered right away. My sister ordered the lasagna and chicken parmesan meal which came cold, and I ordered a burger with cheddar cheese. Which came with American cheese, i sent it back and with in a minute our waiter was coming back with it. All that was done was putting some cold shreds on top of the wrong cheese and brought back out to me. Very disappointed about that, and when it came to wanting the check he asked if we needed boxes (mind you I haven't touched the burger at all since he brought it back) we say no and he doesn't even question if something was wrong with the food. I am not one to send back food ever if I can eat around or deal with what is wrong, but I just can not eat American cheese. And I have worked in the serving industry so I know how things work and how things should be handled. Will not be going back or ordering from this DeRango's...
