I got amazing service here one time and the food was not bad. The service from the young man was SO excellent I instantly made this place my go-to, but the next time I visited this shop I was met with HORRIBLE service that honestly felt somehow personal. I'm completely shocked. I walked in with a list of donuts for my family and after a few minutes a lady came to help me. I asked if they had maple bars, since I didn't see any, she said no and walked away. I stood there with my list for a while waiting for someone to come back, and about ten minutes later another customer came in. A different lady walked up to help her and she started to order, then stopped and asked if I had been helped already. I said no, and the lady behind the counter said "yes, she's already being helped". I was totally surprised, and just told the other customer to go ahead and order. It was another several minutes before the first lady came back and asked if I needed something. I started to order and they didn't have many of the donuts I wanted. Including sugar donuts, maple, anything with chocolate on it, and a bunch of others. The third or fourth I asked for she snapped at me that they were closing soon. I had seen the note on the door on my way in and said "you close at 2pm today, right?" She said yes and checked the clock behind her. It was noon. I'm confused by the treatment I received here and probably won't give this place another try. I hope my experience was just because it was on new years day and they were closing early and is not the standard treatment their customers...
Read moreGreat donut shop. Run by a family, I think that is why they are called "Family Donuts"? These babies are really fresh and I've never had a bad one yet. I highly recommend the French crullers...and that word "cruller" does not even sound French, more like German. But I digress...
On the corner of San Juan Ave and Fair Oaks Blvd, should you drop by on a certain Sunday in the fall, you get the perfect spot to watch the runners in the CIM (California International Marathon) strut by while you can be warm, hugging a cup of joe and biting into a round, sugary addictive dough ball. While running is not my scene, I'm happy to cheer on those who can endure the pain - with donut in hand.
Yet another addictive offering, their cream puffs are filled with custard and a sprinkling of powdered sugar. I don't remember how much they are, but I remember thinking, "Wow, for a mouthgasm, this is pretty reasonable."
In general, I try not to buy donuts, even for things like department meetings at work. HOWEVER, I would make a huge exception for this place. Although their raised glazed aren't rolled out freshly on a conveyor belt like Krispy Kremes, they run a close second.
Minus a star for the lackluster coffee. Yes it is a donut shop, but hey, if I'm indulging, I like a piping hot solid cup of coffee (read: not...
Read moreOh, my gosh! Every time I come in here I am greated with smiling faces, and wonderful aromas. The selection seems limitless: Cake, raised, coffee bars, fritters, cruellers to name a few. They even have a peanut butter filled, chocolate frosted donut! OMG this thing is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!
Savory choices include ham on croissant, jalapeno and sausage, etc... Many different muffins of different fruits every day, from cranberry, to blueberry, to apple and on and on. Everything to eat and drink including coffee and instant cappuccino, juice, milk, what have you, to get your morning going right.
Neighborhood location couldn't be better either. Right at one of the busiest out-of-the-way intersections at Fair Oaks and San Juan. I know, right? So yeah, you've passed it every day, now you need to stop in and see what else they have. They even have seating for your sleepy self to get there early, have a coffee, and wake up.
Why are sitting there reading...
