Went up there with the family for Sunday breakfast and was hoping for the buffet since we always enjoyed it and was sad to hear that it wasn't running right now which we understood with the off season but the lady said they have an amazing breakfast menu so we still decided to try it. It was the worst breakfast, service, and experience I have ever had in a restaurant. We understood walking in with 6 adults and 3 kids would possibly be a wait but walking in there was only a table of 4 sat right away and then us for upstairs and downstairs. Server told us she could not seat us and we needed to go back over to the waiting area and wait when I went to help her move chairs because she was the only one there at the time. When I asked if they had a kid's breakfast menu she said, "no we only serve breakfast twice a week." Literally the worst excuse ever and a continual excuse for why they had nothing. My 3 year old daughter, and I didn't even eat or order as there was no options on the menu that were even appealing. Which was the best choice. My brother ordered a coffee and she never even once offered cream or sugar, which was not already on the table. She even refilled his coffee once and spilled half of the coffee on the ground and never returned to clean it up. Which could cause an accident. The gravy that was served with their biscuits and gravey and chicken fried steak was brown looking gravy and I tried my dad's and it was salty and tasted like oil. They had no milk gravy which was such a change from the buffet. When bringing out the food the server told my dad that she dropped some of his bacon on the ground and instead of bringing the replacement bacon out on another plate for him she told him that she put it on our family friend's plate and told us to divide it up and share. As a previous server for 8 years that is something I would have never done! It was so rude and disrespectful. As a server you never assume!!! When we told her the food was not good she said "yep well we're only open twice a week for breakfast." When we asked if there was any other toast side options like wheat she said "nope only sourdough and English muffin cause we're only open twice a week for breakfast." She never offered anything to make it better. She just went "yep okay," and ignored us. Now I understand sitting there we are a group of 9 but on paper only 7 people ordered. It does not state on their breakfast menu that there is an automatic 20% gratuity for parties over 8 so it came as a shock to us when we saw it on the receipt. For horrible food and horrible service and nothing but attitude from the server, and not even a server doing her job checking on the table, making sure we had everything, or offering any assistance in any way. I even pre-bussed all the dishes for her so it was easier clean up. She was also not busy at all she had our table, another table of 4 and the other server had the other 2 tables that were there. As a previous server I would have never counted a 3 year old child in the party count nor would I have counted someone that didn't eat but was just visiting with the table. I didn't even order something to drink! I honestly think she added it cause she knew the food was bad and she knew her service was terrible she just wnated to make sure she still got her money. Which is sad cause that's how and why you get shitty service. We really enjoyed their breakfast buffet during the season, but after this experience, we won't be back to even try it and see if it's any different. It's frustrating watching my dad spend hid hard earned money to want to take his family and grandkids out to breakfast so we can all see each other to just get crap food, attitude, and crap service. I do not recommend going there for breakfast. Save your money!!! I know this is a long review but it was just such a horrible experience, and so much was wrong. If I could give it a zero star, I would. I honestly hope this gets back to the owner and they make some changes, or just close...
Read moreWe have been Cook House customers for years, but it is not the same and I don't believe we will ever go back. In our experience the food has always been good, and that is why I did not give a One Star Review Rating.
On July 3rd, 2019 we went to The Cookhouse and had to wait in the lobby even though most tables were available. A very loud and stressed out employee named Jeanette started having a very intense loud conversation with other staff right there at the Hostess Station in front of us, and we were tempted to immediately leave (which I now wish we had). When they were ready, we requested that we could wait for a table outside, but that was not an option, even though tables were available. We were given a window table inside, which was fine, except the whole interior of The Cookhouse has been gutted, stripped down, and remodeled with a cold white and gray color paint scheme. All the lights were on full brightness and it made for a very cold and sterile atmosphere. As the sun went down outside, it was so bright inside you couldn't even appreciate the view, which is one of the best things the Cook House has. The air conditioning was set way too cold and we joked that the new management should look up in Webster's Dictionary words such as "Ambience" and "Atmosphere". As it turns out, the extremely stressed out employee 'Jeanette' ended up being our waitress. We could never get a word in edgewise with her as to comment or inquire about dimming the lights, easing off the air conditioning, or just suggest that she calm down. She was polite, but she was intense, hyper-stressed, loud, just short of shouting to other employees across the room barking out orders throughout the evening, and just destroyed any possibility of having an enjoyable relaxing dinner. She literally threw the check on and a 'to go' box at my wife! We spent over $100 for the worst dinner dining experience I can think of I have had anywhere. It would have been better if we had just gone to Denny's. They don't even offer bread anymore with dinner. This used to be a wonderful dining experience and was worth the money, but I will not bother or waste an evening going there ever again, (unless a new owner or management takes over and restores it to the fine dining experience it used to be for many years).
I waited over a week to write this, but it was that bad, and another great place now...
Read moreTo begin, the venue is beautiful. The menu had something for everyone. We were seated right away, even though we didn't have a reservation. However we waited a good 15-20 minutes before being greeted by our server. She was pleasant. But she made many mistakes. First, greet the table within 5 minutes of being seated, she didn't do this. Second make sure everyone is happy and has everything they need after food arrives. Third, frequently check if anything is needed i.e. refills. The food was hit or miss. The Huff's fries were a hit! Everyone at the table enjoyed them and they were of ample size. The wings were good, however they did not have enough flavor. The steak salad had very little steak for the price. The worst was the pasta dishes. All the pasta was waaaaay overcooked. They were also served in very warm bowls which added to the pasta being overcooked. The Stuffed chicken marsala had little to no marsala flavor and very few mushrooms. The potatoes were cooked well but had no seasoning. The chicken Alfredo was an absolute disaster. In fact she couldn't even eat it. In addition to the pasta being mushy from the overcooking, the sauce was watery, not creamy, and had no Parmesan flavor. In fact I'm not sure that there was even Parmesan in the dish. The chicken was pleasantly seasoned, but also overcooked and dry. When our server finally came back to our table to upsell us dessert, everyone was out of drinks. When we told her about the Alfredo being inedible, her response was... well inappropriate. She should have offered to remake the dish, another dish, a free dessert, and sent over her manager. She did none of these things. We left, hungry and disappointed. The 3 stars are for the few things they did right. We do not...
