After living in San Martin for 18 years of my life, I finally went to San Martin’s Cafe and boy do I wish I came earlier. I don’t even know how I considered myself a San Martinian before I had gone to this restaurant.
The beginning of my San Martin Cafe experience was challenging though. I don’t always know what I want in life, so menus are kind of my worse enemy. There were way too many options to choose from. After re-reading the menu multiple times as if I was trying to memorize every order for a rehearsal later, I finally made up my mind. I told the waitress I wanted a veggie skillet and I was pretty happy with my decision, until the waitress came back 5 mins later to inform me there was no veggie skillet on the menu. After going over the menu 3 times, I still found a way to order something that was not even on it. My brain was trying to order the veggie scramble, but my mouth apparently wanted the veggie skillet. When I was given a second chance, I corrected my mistake and ordered the veggie scramble. Once the food came out, the veggie scramble, country potatoes, rye bread, and 3-4 cups of coffee was the perfect combo to start off the day. I liked this place so much, I even planned ahead for what I’m going to get next time (breakfast burrito). So my next San Martin Cafe experience I won’t have anxiety over the...
Read moreFantastic local gem! Daughter & I bicycled from San Jose. Wife met us there for breakfast. Got in just before 8am on a Saturday. Pros: Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. Portions on the bigger side and prices on the lower side. Food was better than standard. Daughter really enjoyed her Belgian-style waffle. I envied my wife's "San Martin" omelet. I had a sausage patty breakfast with a side of biscuits and gravy. Cons: Parking and seating is a little limited. The place filled up fast after 8am. Hash browns could've used a little more brown.
An overall great experience. I'm looking forward to our next visit to try their chilaquiles, home-made corned beef, or maybe their lunch menu.
Update: Returned with the whole family. I asked for my hash browns extra crispy and they were perfect. This place has the local breakfast experience...
Read moreHaven't been in San Martin in several years and never to this restaurant. San Martin is essentially a wide spot on the highway. This place is a half a block off of the main intersection, actually, only intersection. The building and fixtures are old, and show signs of a lot of use but the place was clean and the staff was friendly. We came in at lunch time but ordered breakfast food. Pretty sure the owner was cooking in the kitchen. Food was definitely made to order with a lot of pride. Presentation was outstanding as was the food. This is not a Michelin star restaurant but for good food and service a great place to go in San Martin. I'll remember this place and go back when passing...
