Society Bakery and Cafe — Restaurant in California

The first time I went I was surprised by all the gluten free pastry items and do not go out of my way to buy things that are gluten free. I got the lemon loaf cake and it was the best pastry I’ve had! The next time I went in and I read the sign that it was actually gluten free too and I was astonished. I don’t know how they make it so fluffy and buttery, definitely my favorite item!!!

The coffee is great although I wouldn’t say it’s anything super special. Just regular cafe vibes. They even have a rewards program which I was shocked because not all small businesses do that.

The atmosphere is amazing!! While the parking lot is a little annoying, once you’re inside there is so much to look at. The jams they sell are also spectacular. I got the blackberry basil jam and it was so unique and very yummy.

The staff is also very sweet and kind. I took my brother into the store who has a developmental disability and the lady helping us was so patient and kind. She asked him if he liked the drink and was very sweet to us. I will definitely be coming back...

Really baffled at how this place has a 4.9 rating. The food options are pretty basic, nothing you can't make easily at home and nothing special about them. While waiting for our food, I frequently heard a microwave open, closing, dinging, etc.

There is a good variety of baked goods if you're gluten free by choice but not if you have celiac as they have a small kitchen and non-GF options so cross contamination is definitely occurring. Since there is no disclosure about what is being used in place of wheat flour, I opted for a cookie. Which was good but surprisingly soft.

Coffee was gross. Regular coffee was very weak. Espresso was very bitter. Grossly over extracted. A double shot (roughly 3-4oz) took up roughly half of a 12 ounce cup. Thus my general rule of "if the cappuccino is offered with sizes, the coffee is going to be bad"...

I’ll be honest, we haven’t personally entered society bakery, but as someone who has a gluten allergy I do appreciate their consideration I felt I have to leave a great review anyway! Even down to ordering online (we live further away and the drive for just a pastry doesn’t always sound like the best idea) they always have everything labeled clearly with all the options and automatically add an allergy when ordering an item that is gluten free. They even leave a little note in your order and it couldn’t make me feel more included. My fiancé isn’t gluten free and he loves their breakfast options as well and the quality of their ingredients is overall to be commended. I’m so happy to have an option like this around! Thank...
