Let us Pay Homage to the God of Wine!!
On one of the stops during a wine tour on the Napa Valley Wine Trolley, we were so impressed with our first stop, Castello Di Amarosa, we were curious as to what we would find next. Behold one of the most unique wineries in the Napa, Clos Pegase. From the Romanesque entrance to the statue of Bacchus, we were in for a treat. The winery itself is housed in a very modern contemporary block of buildings with part of carved right into the caves that are right on the property. That's right 20,000 square feet of the winery are located in those caves.
This winery is all about wine, not just the grapes the process or the product, it really is a place that lives what wine is. As I walked through the main entrance and made my way to the main entrance I was brought back to the essence of what a gift wine is. The tour of this magnificent winery was very professional and as we made our way past the rooms, the barrels and into the caves it felt as if we were transported into another time.
I felt as if I was in a place that catered to the wine Gods. The tunnels in the caves were finely decorated and as we made our way into cave theatre I felt more and more like I was a part of the spirit of wine. In a beautifully crafted hall, we were able to see a truly amazing space that paid homage to Gods of wine. Did I mention we tasted some excellent wines? I'm am by no means a Rose drinker but for one of the first times, in a long time, I tasted a couple of very well made and enjoyable Rose's. The reds and white were top-notch as well and I drank every drop of every wine I tasted. Clos Pegase is truly a wine lovers experience and an absolute must if you're...
Read moreIf I could give the experience a negative star, I would have. Upon arrival, a woman (we now know as Heather) seemed annoyed to have to greet us. With a huff she begrudgingly took our names and said she would seat us in a minute. The room was empty with the exception of one other couple. Then she pointed us to the other end of the room and said “you can sit there”. Luckily a bright spot appeared and we met Shelly. She was very nice and soft spoken. She accommodated our tasting to varietals we preferred. During the whole visit, Heather was sighing and grumbling through her tasks and not presenting herself or the winery in a good light. The room was extremely hot. We requested to increase the air conditioning which seemed to once again upset Heather. We then took it upon ourselves to open a couple doors to allow for a cross breeze she was again upset. When we asked Shelly to check for availability of large formats, she was forced to ask Heather who acted put out once again. This was the last straw. We walked up to the front counter and told Shelly how unhappy we were with our experience and specifically told Heather that her attitude to us and the people working with her was unacceptable and we were leaving. Needless to say, we will never visit this winery again or recommend our friends. There are over 500 wineries in the area. Hospitality is key in obtaining and retaining customers. Obviously, Heather does not feel she needs anyone else to visit but the ownership should...
Read moreMy group visited Clos Pegase this weekend for a Private Lunch and tasting for my bachelorette party. We were a group of 14 and Jacob Campbell, their estate director, planned the most thoughtful & remarkable tour, tasting, and private lunch catered by Trè Posti in one of their wine caves.
Susan, our tour guide and patient wing-woman, met us at the entrance with complimentary glasses of their Rosè, and allowed us to take photos on their beautiful property. She took us on a tour from there, taught us the history of the vineyard, introduced and explained some of the vines within our view & accessible to us, and taught us all about the barrels and aging process of their wines.
Susan took us through the caves, which will TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY, and lead us to the theater cave where she, Jacob, and their team had the dreamiest table set. They showered us with kindness, wine, and food and graciously kept us on schedule for our final stop after our lunch here.
I can't emphasize enough how patient, helpful, and kind their team was to us from start to finish.
If you are considering the most intimate, beautiful, well done 2nd stop on a wine tour in the area- COME HERE. If you are considering stopping for a quick tasting in the area- COME HERE. We stayed in Petaluma and made the 1.5 hour trek to this vineyard and I am so incredibly grateful that we did. It was magical, and we have Jacob, Susan, and the team at Clos Pegase & Trè Posti to thank!
THANK YOU!!! Can't recommend Clos...
