El Norteno — Restaurant in Calumet Township

I was VERY disappointed with this establishment after my visit yesterday. The lady at the front counter showed no customer service. She didn’t greet me or didn’t even say “May I help you?” When I was given my food no one said “thank you”. Their prices have gone up again. Almost $4.00/taco. They never have specials, like a discount for Taco Tuesday. They require you to wear a mask and want to charge you $1.00 for one. The majority of places in Lake County do not require masks anymore, so why would I think to have one. They only take cash, which is the most unhealthiest form of payment. They’re too cheap to pay the credit card fee. They squeeze two tacos on the smallest plate possible so not to allow much lettuce or tomatoes. They don’t any chicken choices ( which is healthier). Lastly, the quality of their food isn’t the same. Very little meat in taco. I’ve been going for 30+ years but I won’t be back. There are far better places in Merrillville, Schereville , and...

This place serving expensive nasty Mexican food. It's worse than your worse Mexican food experience. It's far from authentic. It's exactly what one poster said "Ghetto." I'm black and hate this place, if you were a Mexican it would disgust you. The price is ridiculous because you could simply make better using taco seasoning from your local grocer. They are officially the worse place I've had tacos. I'm not going to attempt to try anything else. They don't even offer steak/carne asada as a meat. I can honestly say this place takes the ignorance of people not knowing good Mexican food and feeding them the bottom of the barrel. In my opinion stay and cook or go someone else, even PePe's would be a better choice. Food use to be great, now just ok. I was there 10 minutes before being acknowledged. No other customers waiting, which was unusual for that time of day. The beginning of lunch time cars would be lined up. I heard that the prices went up, and the food and people are different there. They didn't have the main thing I went there for taco salad. I purchased 4 small burritos at nearly $5 each for my family instead. Noticed the large was nearly $9. None of them liked it anymore. The beef burrito definitely wasn't the same taste, horrible. The pork was soppy and lacked flavor. Not going back. It probably wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't expecting the old way...
