After the continuous distraction of the smell of broasted Chicken being carried on the breeze to the nearby baseball field we were on, we decided to go to head over after the game for lunch. Amongst our group, we had the Chicken they are known for as well as a couple of their 'burgers'.
While waiting for your food, you get whatever drink you ordered as well as a small cup of their coleslaw. I'm not really a coleslaw guy but decided to give it a try as it was going to be a 1/2 hr wait for the main dish to come out. Yes, its a smaller place - perhaps the only place to eat in town - so if they are remotely busy.. it's going to be a bit of a wait. As for the previously mentioned coleslaw, I was actually surprised as it tasted more like the the Taquillaberry's or Vineyard Salads those places were known for (if you remember either of them) than what coleslaw typically tastes like.
When the main courses came out, I was both excited and sad. The chicken itself looked and tasted awesome (I went with the white meats). On the other had, the 'hamburgers' looked questionable and tasted about the same. I don't think the patty's were made fresh on-site but were probably some kind of frozen, pre-made mystery meat It saddens me to say it, but I have had a better 'burger' on a visit to a local elementary school for lunch as opposed to what I had here.
There are some other sandwiches on the menu - as well as pizza - but a small pizza that walked by us looked like it was torched.
All-in-all, the place was clean, the servers friendly, and the wait was about what I expected. If you go there for the chicken they are known for - you'll be fine. If you stray from the chicken.....
ย ย ย Read moreWe arrived at 11:30 on Saturday morning; I ordered the 1/4 light chicken with broasted potatoes, and my wife ordered chicken strips with fried breaded cauliflower. We sat at the bar and were waited on right away and the service was prompt and friendly. I normally don't like coleslaw, but did enjoy theirs - maybe because I was so hungry or maybe it was good. To me it was very wet and overly sweet. I still ate it all. The wait for our order was well over 40 minutes. When it arrived it became obvious that this was not typical fried chicken. The breading was light and crispy, the chicken was moist and very tender. It's obviously brined and the batter is well seasoned. The broasted potatoes were OK, I expected them to be a bit crispy but they were not. The chicken strips were good, but not the best I've had. The breading on the cauliflower was much heavier than I expected. Overall, the broasted chicken was very good, but I'm not sure the meal was worth the wait overall. The service was friendly and welcoming. I'd stop again if I'm in the area, but probably won't go out of...
ย ย ย Read moreI kept driving past this place over and over again, reading a sign that says "world famous chicken". Employees of mine who happen to live in the area kept telling me to stop driving by and reading the sign and stop for once and try it.
Well, I did just that! I finally stopped and got some of that "world famous chicken". It is definitely some amazing chicken and I'm glad I stopped. The chicken was moist, perfectly cooked with a flavorful batter. I could have ate more than just the 2 pieces I ordered and was wishing I had ordered more over the broasted side potatoes.
The broasted potatoes were nothing to brag about, but it's just a side and wouldn't stop me from going back for some more delicious chicken. But, what would really get me to stop by isn't the chicken (even for as good as it is). It's the super old, secret recipe coleslaw. DAMN! I am not a coleslaw guy at all (everyone makes it crappy), but damn is the slaw at the Brass Rail insane!
All you need to order is some chicken with a big side of coleslaw and you'll be happy, well, at least I would...
