After looking around town for a bite to eat, I finally settled on La Gorra Del Pelotero and was not let down. I approached the restaurant’s owner knowing very little Spanish and was helped me through the menu. The cordial staff shared some of their favorite dishes and my party ended up ordering pechuga, a bacon-wrapped, mofongo-stuffed chicken breast, and a tripleta sandwich. While waiting, I spent time admiring the, what I’d call, authentic Puerto Rican ambiance. While it’s not the prettiest and most sanitary, it’s a great experience and the restaurant staff is willing to cater to any of your needs. Once the food arrived, I took a bite and was astounded by the perfectly-cooked juicy chicken breast, flavorful bacon, and soft mofongo. The tripleta was “one of the best bites of food I’ve ever had.” At the end, we got the bill and the total came to a crazy-low $16.25.
