This resturant is clean, cute and inviting as soon as you walk in the door. My party was sat promptly, we were told they are a FULLY from scratch kitchen and it's not easy to find a kitchen that puts so much passion into their food. Our server and the service she provided was very kind and punctual. Drinks Cherry Pepsi Pepsi is offered on the menu but our server offered to make cherry. I know it's typically grenadine put into a glass of Pepsi and not a thing to brag about. Usually the grenadine is too heavy in the soda and you taste nothing but syrup. They seem to make the cherry Pepsi with care. I had 2 cups and each glass tasted the same with a very subtle but perfect hint of cherry taste. Our server refilled our cups with a pitcher. This leads me to belive they actually put care into making that Pepsi batch taste the same each time and wasn't over powered with syrup. They also put a Maraschino cherry in the glass. This kind of service stands out to me as a guest and as a service industry worker myself. That was a glass of soda they could have carelessly dumped syrup into it but they didn't. They took the extra care to give the experiance more quality and that is truly appreciated! That glass of cherry Pepsi became more then just a glass of cherry Pepsi in my eyes. Appetizer Bruschetta it was DELICIOUS! The amount of flavor packed into such a simple dish was mind blowing. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy the Italian bread was nice and toasted with a great garlic flavor. The way the bruschetta was prepared made the bread have a ,juicy fall apart in your mouth taste, although still maintaining a nice crunch. ( forgot to get a picture I was so excited to eat) Entrée I had the Chicken Collini (comes with a side and salad) It is breaded chicken breast sautéed in olive oil. That gave the chicken a light ,crunchy crust. The chicken was very juicy and great quality . It was topped with lump crab meat and artichoke hearts with a lemon pepper cream sauce. The very first bite of the dish made my mouth water , my taste buds were going crazy tasting each ingredient put into that dish. You can taste how much effort is put into the food and quality of meal they want a guest to enjoy. For my salad I picked the creamy gorgonzola dressing. The salad was fresh and the dressing was very flavorful, the gorgonzola taste was perfect and not overbearing . In my experiance gorgonzola I've had has over powered the taste to anything else accompanying it. They did a great job balancing the amount of gorgonzola to dressing. My side was an upgrade to Mac and cheese it was by far the best mac and cheese I've had ! Even beating out my grandmother's which I've loved since a young child. It was well sauced and baked with cheese on top. Amazing flavor and perfectly cooked noodles! *Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich (dipped in Buffalo) The chicken breast breading was flavorful , the bun was toasted as well. Just a bite into the sandwich and again more mouth watering flavor and crunch! The fries are unique in the aspect of how they're cut , very delicious and crispy! I was so full I had to get half of my food to take with me. You know you're eating quality food when you're so full you can't finish a plate . I will add I'm writing this review the same day I visited. It is almost 5 hours after eating and I don't have a hint of hunger right now to eat the left overs I want so bad ! My experience at some places have left me with no take home food an unsatisfied stomach and then I need a snack in a few hours! Dessert (togo) Today they had strawberry shortcake cheese cake and a 5 layer cinnamon roll cake. I can't resist a cheesecake but I will add I am a very picky cheesecake person. I've had some of the best homemade cheesecake and I swore I'd never find something better . Well needless to say Al an Ruben's made me eat my own words with that statement. Their cheesecake is absolutely delcatable, delicate, light, airy...

Al Ruben’s is a cozy little spot tucked away in Washington, PA that feels worth supporting—especially if you’re looking to back a Black-owned business.
One thing that stood out right away was the scratch-made sauces—a refreshing change from the bottled shortcuts you find at many restaurants. That said, their hours are very limited. As of this month, they’ve shifted to being open Saturdays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., which makes planning a visit a little tricky.
To start, I tried the Reuben Balls. They were deep-fried and the flavor was there, though they could have been elevated by lightening the Thousand Island base with some fresh herbs—chives would have been perfect.
For my entrée, I had the Chicken Collini: a perfectly fried chicken breast draped in a parmesan peppercorn sauce with artichokes and crab. Flavor-wise, it delivered beautifully. My only disappointment was that none of the entrées come with pasta. That silky sauce practically begged for linguine or penne, but instead, I paired it with mashed potatoes—most of which my baby girl happily claimed for herself.
For dessert, I ordered the chocolate-covered banana cheesecake. It was enjoyable but leaned a bit heavy. I personally prefer a salty crust for contrast, and this one softened nicely once it sat out. The real highlight, though, was the banana buttercream—absolutely delicious and the perfect finishing note.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They had jazzy music playing softly in the background, everything looked clean and thoughtfully put together, and the serving staff was kind, patient, and attentive. I also noticed a steady stream of regulars coming in by the pairs, which speaks volumes about their loyal customer base.
Overall, Al Ruben’s has charm and strong potential. With extended hours, a touch more finesse in balancing certain dishes, and some flexibility on pairings like pasta, it could easily elevate from a hidden gem to a must-visit.
Thank you, Manager Lisa, for the accommodations for my baby girl....
Read moreHorrible experience at AL'an Rubens. We have always heard such great things about this restaurant so we decided to drive the hour to Washington to try to it out. We got there at 4:30pm on a Saturday. We did wait 30 minutes to be seated which wasn't a problem but after being sat, another 15 minutes went by before a waitress asked if we had been waited on. We said no so she went to tell the host. The host came over and said it was his fault he didn't tell the waitress she was sat Even though she served the table right next to us that was sat after us! So the host apologizes and takes are bar drink order and says the bar is backed up. They should have told the bartender to make them on the fly but nope. The waitress finally came over and got us water (30 minutes at this point) and took our order. Our apps and salad came out and we still didn't have our drinks! After an hour of sitting there we told her to just cancel our drinks. I watched several tables who were there after us get served and even left before us. Maybe they just don't care about 2 tops and only care about larger parties. There were also several tables open with many people waiting in line to be seated. After almost 20 years in business I would think they would have their system down but it seemed like they were all running around like headless chickens. I've never seen a restaurant so unorganized. If the food had been good it would have made up for it. We got the Ruben balls and mozzarella and carozza, both were not good! I gave the left overs to my dog. We also got the chicken parm, penne ala vodka and Mac and cheese. The penne was ok but to much salt. The chicken parm was just ok not fabulous, but the Mac and cheese was excellent. That's the only star I could give them. We finally got out of there at 6:30pm! 2 hours for a crappy dinner experience. Has to be only old people that like this place. Definitely won't be wasting my gas again...
