We were looking for an Original alternative to Cracker Barrel and found Keithsburg. Place was packed and everyone seemed satisfied- even those under patio. Sunday morning 11am with about 10minute wait. Well worth it.
Starting with our server Melody things were wonderful. The atmosphere is southern cafe with a counter area and tables maximized for the crowds.
We had breakfast. Pancakes are plate size, fluffy and delicious. Omelets cover one side of plate. I had the Fantastic TUSCAN Omelet in which the sun-dried tomatoes were a boost to the chicken and seasoned flavors made my appetite grow. Mom had the Keithsburg which contained all breakfast meat you can name. She was in love. The other meals were the un-usual Real eggs scrambled fluffy with cheese, bowl of grits which were smooth and strips of bacon which no one complained about being to hard or under cooked.
But the biscuits were the crown on the plate. Homemade, fluffy and light. Not dense and palm size. I am fanatical about a good biscuit. I grabbed a brownie at checkout which I ate as if it was the last brownie alive.
The service was prompt, consistent and full of southern charm by all. I enjoy these spots where there's memorabilia and quotes. Conversation starters! I'm making Keithsburg Cafe my go to when we're at the lake. Bye...
Read moreI usually get an omelet with bacon, cheese, and sausage and they are generously filled and flavorful. So meaty! Come with an appetite.
The coffee is so good, yet not talked about enough. I felt it was my duty to mention it. You could come for the coffee alone and leave happy.
My favorite is their pancakes. Fluffy. Big. Cooked to ultimate perfection. I always cry twice when I eat them. I cry tears of happiness with the first bite because they're so good (better than IHOP - sorry, but it's true). I feel like I don't even deserve them. My wife had to quiet me down one time after I yelled, "God, I know I went to church on Sunday, but this.... THIS is just too good! You are so good to me! You're a good, good father I say!"
Then I cry tears of sadness with my last bite because they are so big, I don't have the strength or endurance to order another one. Most people eat just one. I can do two because life is too short to not have the occasional carb coma. The best best naps of my life have been after two of their outstanding pancakes.
I should definitely mention their nice staff, too. I feel welcome every...
Read moreWe went on Father's Day and it was BUSY! We only waited a short time, and BOY was it worth it. I had the country fried steak which was perfectly of cooked, tender, and moist. The sawmill gravy was mild but you could always add black pepper it you'd like it a bit spicier. My husband had the Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was delicious, but very different from any we had previously. It is served on toasted white bread and all the ingredients are finely in chopped, making it easier on our old choppers. My eldest son had the banana pancakes. They are HUGE! He made the mistake of ordering 2. His Dad ended up eating a quarter of the first one and we had to bring the other one home. We will DEFINITELY be back for round 2! Update-We returned in July and I had the onion rings. The menu says they are beer battered, but they must have a different definition of beer battered, because the ones I got were crumb fried. They were alright, not the best I've ever had (a bit on the tough side). The wait staff are wonderful, welcoming, and highly accommodating. Keithsburg Cafe is a great place for...
