Kettle Cove Ice Cream and Shack — Restaurant in Cape Elizabeth

We’ve read the positive reviews for Kettle Cove Ice Cream and Shack and decided to try their ice cream. I ordered their strawberry ice cream. It was okay ice cream. It was not as creamy from an ice cream shop and tasted more like ice cream bought from the supermarket. This was back in 2016. I never went back until last night when my daughter wanted ice cream. Our usual ice cream shop sold their business and so we figured we give Kettle Cove Ice Cream another shot. She ordered Birthday Cake Batter hard serve. After her first taste, she said the texture and consistency was weird, runny, gummy and grainy...more like soft serve than hard. And as it melted, consistency was similar to chunky glue. My daughter couldn’t finish her ice cream. She has had birthday cake batter from various ice cream shops through the years. It is one of her favorite flavors. Ice cream tends to melt with a consistency that is very runny and smooth not chunky and gummy. It was disappointing because my daughter was really looking forward to just having some ice cream. We brought the ice cream back to the shack, which was less than half unfinished, to let them know that the birthday cake batter tasted weird in texture and consistency. We were told that’s just how the birthday cake batter is suppose to be and was offered another scoop of ONLY the same flavor. If we didn't like it, why would we want more of the same flavor...at least let us choose something else? We declined and threw away the rest. Unfortunately, we do not plan to buy ice cream here again. I can’t justify paying a lot for...

We don't go often but boy is it a treat when we do! We decided to visit the shack one night for burgers. The decision was between kettle cove creamery and the lobster shack (both of which are just down the road for us) but lobster shacks prices went up this year and the food quality went down (honestly their burgers are small and only come with a slice of cheese on a thin, squished bun). We ate some ice cream while the food was being prepared, so many flavors along side your classic soft serve, all I've had have been delicious. The burgers were juicy, full, and flavorful. Topped with cheese, lettuce, and whatever condiments and veggies you want. Buns were soft and fresh, not squished flat. Fries were long and cooked to perfection. Our kids split a grilled cheese and it was more than enough, bursting with cheese on nice thick slices of bread. The staff is sweet and service is great. Parking turns over pretty quickly, too, so if the lot is full it won't take long before a spot opens up. Will definitely try to get back before they close...

Kettle Cove Ice Cream is a classic!! Very good ice cream, lots of Flavors for both kids and adults! Old fashioned dirt lot near 2 great beaches- you can smell the salt air. It is run very efficiently- the staff moves the line and servings are generous! HONESTLY the shack is not so efficient- waited over an hour for a hot dog!!! And was told 10 minutes. Sorry to say but it wasn’t worth it. Bring the IceCream team over there to manage the crowds! It’s not rocket science and it’s a much needed good affordable option ...
