I went to Roots Burger Bar solely because I had read that the former owner of Scottyās owned this. I gave too much credit to that old memory.
I entered the business and asked for a table. They asked if a high top table was OK. I told her that I would prefer a normal table (due to a back problem that I have). She replied, āwe really only have high top tables left.ā OK, whatever. Why bother asking my preference if youāre not going to give me what I ask for?
I was seated at a high top table, then looked immediately to my left and saw two normal tables right next to me. WTH???
I saw that they had a $.90 wings special today. I always loved the huge wings that they sold at Scottyās Brewhouse, so I ordered a couple of those to go with my PB&J burger. I was asked if I wanted my wings before my burger came out, or with the burger. I opted to get them before.
A few minutes later, my burger showed up. No wings. I had to ask for the wings to be brought out.
Whoever put my burger together had the motor skills of a one-year-old. The patties, cheese, and bacon were all askew. They were nowhere close to being stacked on the bun. I basically had to re-assemble my sandwich. The bottom bun was so soggy that it immediately started to fall apart. The grape jelly was all on one side of the burger, and the tiny blob of peanut butter was on the opposite side. You would think they mightāve put those togetherā¦
The seasoned fries were OK. I tried some of their fry sauce, because they seem to make a big deal of it here. It just tastes like a really watered-down honey mustard.
When the wings showed up, I almost laughed out loud. They are no bigger than what you get at Buffalo Wild Wings. I really thought they would be the large ones that they used to sell at Scottyās, but I was wrong again.
Their iced tea was almost clear. It was the weakest tea Iāve had in a long time.
The restaurant was so loud that I couldnāt hear my waitress talking to me. The noise level was ridiculous.
Overall, the food was average at best. Presentation was terrible. The price wasnāt too bad. My waitress was really nice, and she was probably the high point of the whole dining experience (thanks, Anjana).
I donāt mind giving places a second chance, but itās probably going to be a while before I try to come back here. Everything about it was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start by saying the food was delicious! I want to say that first, but I was treated poorly today! Me & 5 other co workers wanted to try something new today and found Roots Burger. I came in last and everyone was seated so I had to sit at a table by my self. The waitress took my order and about 49 minutes later all the food came.. it was already boxed for us to take to go. After getting our found around 1:50pm she took our payments and about 5 minutes later she came back with receipts and our cards and laid them on a table. So at this point we are all searching for reach card and receipt is ours between the group, no biggie. We were just rushing to sign so we could leave and get back to work ; our break was over at 2pm and now itās 1:56pm Iām last in line and another lady who did not take my order or bring me the food asked me in a nice way where we were from .. I said here (Indianapolis) & she said no like where from here .. I was confused so another co worker said where we worked. The woman who I still have no clue what her roll was said āand you couldnāt tipā I was a little confused. She said the group I was with did not tip.. the waitress who did take our orders and brung our food came back in the restaurant screaming and crying āI did all that work and Iām not going to get paid!?ā I for a second felt bad and confused like did someone not pay .. I guess while Iām at the table talking to a lady about tips our waiter went outside screaming āsign your receiptā I explained to the woman we were all in a rush so maybe thatās why they missed the tip? I was unsure if anyone tipped or not because we all paid separately. I said if I did not tip I was in a rush but I can tip ⦠no biggie .. Iām at the table trying to re-find my receipt and the lady who I donāt know is talking to my about my co workers and how sheās going to report us to ur job if said I can tip and she said āthen why are we still talking about itā so I said just forget it & forget the tip .. as Iām walk out the lady follows me out about the tip .. still trying to go back and forth with me. Once I get back to work my coworkers showed me how much they food was & how much their cards were charged. Looks like they tipped.. food amazing but I was treated poorly behind something I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRounded down to to 3 star but wanted to give a 3.5. Sunday lunch. Arrived the restaurant wasn't busy. Restaurant seating room narrow and long rectangle we got stuck at the back by the restroom so gives you an idea of the smaller capacity when not even busy. Placed order and seemed to take awhile for food to arrive about 30 minutes later. After food delivery server was scarce as the place got busy. Large restroom but no partitions so one person and lined up. So could become a bottleneck. Had American burger double patty which with its special sauce was reminiscent targeting of a Big Mac or maybe Big Boy burger. We decided one patty should be fine in the future. Broccoli side was not overcooked and green not yellow thanks. For as many tv's in the place managed to be seated where without turning around could view the single across the restaurant above the front window so had to turn around and look directly up. Not convenient. Others had patty melts (just ok) and peanut butter burger (West Lafayette XXX restaurant don't worry). So this was an acceptable slightly above average smash burger but not on our top 2 or 3 for burgers. Young server seemed distracted and uncommitted with glancing eye contact even after the oversized gratuity why did I get so generous? Need to stop empathy just for middle of the road service. Polite but not engaged. This is table service, dining right? That's what was noticed with other servers they didn't engage customers to make it a pleasant inviting experience of dining out. PS thie owner is resurrected from prior lives Scotty's Brewhouse, but smaller scale local strip...
