Disappointing and careless. The scheduling/consultation went very smoothly (or so I thought), but when I went to pick up the cake at the agreed-upon time, Sabrina seemed surprised to see me. She asked for 10 min -- no problem. 30 minutes later, she handed me the cake, and my jaw dropped.
1st version: I wish I had taken a picture, but the Sesame Street sign was so far off the mark. Instead of the signature white all-caps lettering, it was a dull gold with that "Live Laugh Love" font. Instead of a cheerful green, a drab olive. There were no yellow accents anywhere.
2nd version: Her idea for a quick fix was to cover the gold text with white paint (2nd picture) and add the gold outline around the semi-circle and rectangle. By now, I was sitting in her driveway for 45 min. If it'd been a $75 cake, I would've said thanks and left. But for $260+ for an 8" single layer cake, I was so unhappy. She asked me to come back in an hour.
3rd version: She glued on a new street sign on top of the existing one and tried to use edible letters to replace the name. But the sign would be too long, so she painted it instead. Sloppy, but by now, I was two hours past the promised ready time, it was 95 degrees outside, and I was over it.
Not once during our emails did she say that she'd take creative license with the sign. Not once did she say "I can't make that in fondant, so I'll substitute as necessary." Not once did she say the colors would be different. I gave her the reference picture; she said "Confirmed."
Sabrina offered me a $20 refund (less than 10% of the cake price) for the inconvenience -- still waiting for that five days later. Mostly, I'm glad that 1) I wasn't picking up the cake right before the celebration, because I would've been super late, and 2) the cake was for a small family gathering, not a big party. I would've been embarrassed to serve the final result. The cake itself tasted fine; sweetness level was great and the cake...
Read moreMy boyfriend got me this cake for my birthday. He was so excited to give me this cake because he knew i wanted a heart cake with glitter on it, but my boyfriend isn’t confrontational. We were so disappointed. This was not worth the money he payed. It was a little over $100. Tell me if this is worth that much. We went to the grand Asia market to buy food and saw they had a heart cake with so much more detail and so much more beautiful for less than half of what he payed for. I’m quite disappointed. He kept insisting on buying me a new cake, but I just couldn’t let him spend more money. I had to go to the store to buy things to fix up my own cake because we were sharing this cake with family and everyone knew how excited we were. The taste of the cake wasn’t all that either. It was dry. Sadly he was told he had to pay upfront for the cake to have it made. I told him he was better off going to order a cake from Lowe’s food next time. This cake looked like it was made...
Read moreIncredible experience all around, including the process of designing, ordering, and picking up the cake, as well as the quality of the finished product. I ordered a custom cake as a surprise for my wife on our fifth wedding anniversary. The design included an intricate flower arrangement on top of the cake to match my wife's boqouet from the wedding. We were blown away by the craftsmanship and attention to detail needed to make our cake. It was such a work of art we didn't want to cut into it! But once we did, the flavor was excellent as well. The cake tasted fresh and light, not too greasy/buttery or overly sweet.
The cherry blossom macarons are delicious as well. Perfect texture and right amount of sweetness.
I was very pleased with my experience at Bella Cake and would not hesitate to call on them again for a tasty treat or special...
