I have visited several times over the past couple of years. Last time, and i mean LAST TIME was yesterday.
It was a bit busy with all tables taken, but that was Ok as we were planning on takeout anyway. However, for whatever reason we were totally ignored. Both the owner and the man operating the place consciously and studiously ignored us as we stood there ready to give them our takeout order. The man took phone orders; he gave out takeout orders to people who came in to the restaurant after us; he even came out of the kitchen and cleaned the counter RIGHT IN FRONT OF US; but all of that time he looked right past us and never so much as acknowledged that we existed.
I think their success has gone to their head.
We left after 15 minutes and went to a different place that was just as busy - albeit significantly larger. The hostess was flying by to clear a just-vacated table and immediately acknowledged us, stated she would be right back, and went on her way. That's all it would have taken at the Golden Pig to keep us there.
That is not what they did. That is why they lost us as customers. FOREVER.
I recommend you not go there either. That is no way to treat any...
Read moreAbout the Place: Golden Pig is a very small local Korean restaurant owned by a family. The place looked neat and clean, and the staff was friendly. Conveniently, they have a parking lot next to the restaurant.
About the Food: We started with the Kimchi Korean pancakes, which were amazing. They were freshly made right in front of us, with a perfect balance of tangy kimchi and crispy batter. Next, we had the five Mandu with Korean slaw. Although the dumplings were frozen and didn't appear homemade, they were still quite delicious. The crispy exterior and savory filling complemented the refreshing slaw. Finally, we ordered the Daeji Bulgogi sliced spicy pork. This dish was a highlight, with tender pork marinated in a flavorful sauce that was mildly spicy. The Korean slaw served alongside added a crunchy, refreshing element that balanced the richness of the meat.
Overall: Overall, Golden Pig is a good find in the corner of Pittsburgh and a must-visit. The friendly atmosphere and flavorful dishes make it a...
Read moreHaving lived in Seoul, South Korea for several years, I was on the lookout for some good Korean food in the Pittsburgh area. Sadly, most of the choices are either way too overpriced, supremely disappointing, or both. However, down a small highway south of the city in the town of Cecil there is a tiny brick building that houses Golden Pig. This unassuming little building is where Golden Pig's owners, a Korean couple, make home-style Korean food for reasonable prices.
As many others have said, the shop is tiny. It can fit maybe 10 or 12 people max. Not to mention the fact that, for some of us, it's quite a drive to get down there. However, I will say that if you are looking for the most authentic Korean food in the Pittsburgh area, Golden Pig is about as close as you can get without breaking the bank. The owners are friendly and the food is delicious. What more can you ask for? Well, more seating, I suppose, but I'm willing to overlook that, all things considered.
Highly...
